Yes, many people have this problem...
You can't run the VST version of Waves with Logic PC version, only the DirectX, and even then you need to run the plugin enabler to configure everything.
Install Waves, delete the waveshell.dll from your VST plugins folder.
Run the plugin enabler, (start->programs->emagic->logic->tools) let it run for as long as it needs. it will disable the buggy directX plugins.
you will still need to manually disable the 'double' copies that remain.
Or, you can switch to Cubase SX where all the Waves VST stuff works great.

I'll have to disagree.
Actually you better run VST waves on logic and NEVER run the directx ones
just disable them in pluginenabler.

I would be very interested in knowing how you actually make the VST verisions work.
Some installs i had them working...but in the latest version it just wont.
I done like Aeon said...rerun plugin enabler til it stopped crashing, the disable the duplicates.

There is an issue with the Wave Shell in one of the cracked version going arround. Buy the software and it will work fine. |

The Logic Release notes file addresses the 'duplicate' DirectX phenmomenon by telling you to do a "process DSP" command but I never found the command it was refering to, or found anything about it in the documentation. Anybody know specifically what they were talking about? It seems like a pretty vague term.
Anyway, Trip, different people with different systems & versions have different experiences. I've known a variety of people using the same versions that have had different VST vs DirectX experiences, welcome to the magic of varying chipsets & CPUs.... I'm willing to bet this guy's problem will be fixed by removing the Vsts, while I don't doubt you've had no problems. I'm also willing to bet the two of you have AMD vs Intel motherboards or something different like that.
But yeah, like I said, even then it's still tricky. The 'duplicate' versions of the Direct X plus will crash it when they are placed in the song, which the Emagic release notes acknowledge, they know there's some kind of problem. It'd be nice to clarify what that DSP command refers to so people don't have to sit with the plug in enabler for 20 minutes removing all the doubles.
Or switch to Cubase.

I don't understand why people are having problems, but I think it was Cubase that had problems in running the waveshell in the first place who then made an option like: "Preload Waves Plugins On Startup".
Logic runs waveshell with all the plugins all the time without any problems.
And never use directX since you have the VST ones allready.
Whoever is upgrading waves all the time for unknown reasons since their root plugins didn't change much, should check very well with compatibility with Logic - since yes it's dying slowly on the PC.

ok, I had this problem and other ppl had samne problem too....Trip is right, the problem is with the VST and the directX cannot be used
Here's how to do it:
First thing is you should reinstall logic...the first time you opened logic with the wrong settings for Waves you probably had a window saiyng some dll couldn't be found or something like that...After opening that time that filename was saved to logic memory and it won't try to open it again or it will crash, so first thing you should do is reinstall it (thats why some ppl keep on triyng and it doesn't work even after fixing problem if u don't do this first)
After reinstalling logic install the Waves.
Now very important:
BEFORE opening logic, go to the plugEnabler
"start->programs->emagic->logic->tools"
and disable all waves plugins, this will disable all directX plugins (this is what causes the conflict, the waves install creates a duplicated of each plugin - you'll notice there is two of each - but anyway, you don't need any, you can disable them all and use the VST)
Open logic, and everything should be ther
Hope I'm not missing anything! Good Luck
Boom!!

there is a bug with the erm "long term demo" versions of waves in logic when you install them they all appear twice in the plugin enabler. i use a small .bat file that does it business and lets me use the plugs painlessly, however i use the dx versions mostly and i have found no change in functionality nor performance when using dx contra the vst versions.
besides i´ve always felt that vst really wasn´t supported very well in logic but both dx and vst work well in my setup.
as to finding this .bat file i am talking about do as i did:
search the web.

what?? VST isn't well supported in logic?thats news for me
And yeah, its what I said b4, you can choose to delete both DX in the PlugEnaBLER or just delete one of them (they are duplicated as told b4) and continue to use DX. However, imo i choose VST instead of DX |
