This post is mostly for Logic users ,
I don't find many resources on working specifically on Trance in logic anywhere on the net so maybe if i explain how i use logic maybe everyone can add on alittle.
it might help some people it might not.
Here we go...

Ok first off before working on a track I open up sound forge 6 and my dvd player i can minimize for sampling at 24bits assuming all levels are good to go and not peaking.
I find a good dvd with alot of good sounds.
and sample ,and from this point you can cut, fade ,and apply effects to your samples.I
usually apply weird sick twisted effects when using sound forge 6 to audio files (WAV)
so they are just ready for logic 5 ,then in logic i can apply more effects if needed such as delay, and whats cool is you can make many different variations and just save them with different names ,just don't overright the original!!!.So i do this for while and with many dvd's sound is EVERYWHERE!!
not to mention high quality at that.
OK so i close the dvd player and kik on my synth (get it >KIK< haha ok ,nvermind)
ok so now i can start recording more sounds for the tracks from an external souce such as my Cs6x for example.
assuming you know your gear and how to rework your sounds and all,record what ya like,remeber to tweak knobs on the sound as well to capture sweeps and all.Effects
can be applied via a plugin to an audio file using Wavelab ,sound forge or any sound editor capable.Now we have sounds for the audio side of logic.

create steps on how your going to layout your tracks,but be ready to break rules.
my guidelines are something like:
Collect audio files/sounds from dvd's or various sound sources.
this process alone can be long if ya really want to detail a sound applying effects in a sound editor.
VST/audio instruments:
my kiks and basslines come from VST's
so i can tweak and do more editing along the way.keep and eye on channels used it can suck your CPU's juice.So have a strong Puter
or keep an eye on what VSt's ya use.
MIDI /Xternal instruments -
I leave these channels for leads and ambient sounds.Creating ambient sounds via vst will kill your CPU/RAM on the fly.I leave it as an audio file.create the midi data and let it out to the external sound device.make sure the sound from the that device is routed back into your sound card clearly.
Edit and listen to everything add rearrange
and master.
Im forgetting some stuff but there is so many ways of going about creating music with logic. This is just an example.

Audio Instruments:
ok gonig to sum shit up...
Kiks -I layout kiks with Logic's ESX24
and load Ontology's "buttload of hits"
i downloaded from http://www.ontology.com/exs24/
loop a region so i can just layout my kik and tweak...in logic 5.5 you can use your ESX24 in multi channel so you can tweak all areas of percussion, such as hihats, kiks, and everything else like they are on their own channel.Mess with the setting on Esx24 for they kik ass to on the sound then i add a compressor and play with the settings if needed till the kik is right to my taste.

2 Oscillators, one SubOscillator and a Tuned Noise generator...basically it's good for leads
and basslines and anything sick you can come up with.It has its own effects onboards so you can do what ya want.get psycadelic on a sound! kik on the delay and adjust to your needs on the rest. |
