It has been a long time since i wrote something in this forum but the issue i would like to unfold is in my opinion quite important so i would like to say my opinion and listen to what people have to say on it.......IN ORDER TO AVOID MISSUNDERSTANDINGS PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM ONLY REFERING TO THE SCENE OF THESSALONIKI.....
Eventhough i know that this issue consirns all the lockal djs of thessaloniki i will only talk for my self and say my opinion listing some facts on what is going on behind the smiles and happy faces of the promoters in this city....
Fact 1)As you all read in the topic lockal djs dont get payed at least on the 50% of the parties they play....
Fact 2)Lockal djs when they Do get payed rarely get the amount agreed(some even get cds instead of money)
Fact 3)I am personally fed up with the bulshit hear every time i play from all the promoters in this city....."sorry man the party didnt make it"
Starting from these facts i will now comment on them as i would like you to do as well.....
The price of the ticket in every party is calculated by the hole expences of the party divided by the tickets that the promoter thinks that will have....Therefore its obvious that the fee of the lockal djs is also included in the net expences.....When ever a promoter fails to cover the expences of the party the lockals are the first not to get payed....On the other hand when a promoter makes some money he will never give more to the lockals nor the money from previous parties....and in several cases he will still claim that he lost money just to avoid the payment....Well if you cant cover the party expences or if you desided that "air" is what pays for parties, dont do parties just do feed your personal ego and name your self promoter!!! As if the lockals are so stupid that they dont have eyes of them selves or enough experience to know when a party makes it or not....Speaking as a party goer and not as a dj its quite normal to think:Hey....if the lockals dont get payed why do i still have to pay 20 euros?....why not pay 15?....Why Greece has established some of the highest tickets in parties in europe compined with the lowest fees?(lockal fees?)
Offcourse one of the reasons is the high fees that clubs ask and the high fees of the foreing artists....but its not only that...its also the fact that a lot of new djs (especially in the prog scene of thessaloniki suddenly appeared and as new djs they will comprimise will a lot lower fee and most of the times with no fee at all just to do their thing..(wich is definatelly understandable and acceptable by me)....As a result though promoters ended up thinking that they actually do you a favor to put you in the line up and they treat you with an attitude as if they where saying...."you should also b happy to play...."
They think wich is the cheapest and most easy to trik and not wich is the best for their line up as far as music selections technical skills and sound quality.....2 years a go i was the Target in this forum with people saying ..."he is playing mp3s he doesnt play as good bla bla bla...)Since that time i desided to play only originals , practised my ass off got into one of germanies biggest labels ,played abroad in festivals....as a result?....i dont even get half of what i used to.....as a matter of fact i got more money in one of germanies festivals (while in germany i am a nobody)than all my payments in greece within a fucking year....Some people and some promoters may start saying as an argument....you are not good enough for 150 euros /set(is it too much to ask maybe?)...my answer to them is this....if you dont like my music my style my price or my skills dont fucking book me....but spare me all the usual bollocks and your fake excusses....enough is enough...All of you promoters after so many years of promoting and party organising you still havent learned the most important think....Its your caracter that brings people to the party and not the music it self...thats why all of your parties go from bad to worst,thats why you cant communicate bettween you ,blinded by your arrogance, and that why your parties go from bad to worst....thats why the scene of about 400-500 people that was created a couple of years ago has dessappeard and nowdays doesnt exceed 200....And if you think that people dont know or dont care....well think againg....empty dancefloors is your answers...
Finishing this post (eventhough i could say a lot more getting in to much more details )i would like to thank you for your time to read this and that i am looking forward to see your answers and arguments....some might say that this might b a suicidal post, risking my next bookings so please read carefully.....I DONT GIVE A FUCK!!!! |

Adding something to my post.....this post doesnt refer to 2 promoters....1 is twilight zone wich i have nothing to say cause i never played for them and the other one is psytrance gr wich is the only promoting team that actually behaves as proffessionals and will pay you what ever agreed nomatter the loss.... |

its same mate in every country with resident djs or artists the piont is pay on what u agree even if it small,
if some doesnt pay u my freind u dont play for him again
u make a officail post but its up to promoters around teh globe to play there price ,its not desrepfull to a promoter if he sees an artists will bring him 10 people
plus u post like u say greeks can bring people at least with the 1s iv worked they understand that partyies here
are so so and they make a good price and are happy with that ,know if some 1 didnt pay u what u agreed thats bad business
1 more thing if ure waiting to make money from these in greece move to japan or brazil beter

Since you are not covered by the law the person that hires you if he is an asshole he will fuck you proper, cause you cannot do anything. Greeks are masters in that.

suicidal? Come on mate, the "finished" promos will not book you? ehhehehe! As you said, there is only 200ppl average attending parties. Promos dont have our support,they cannot make events. They made few years ago something really nice, by raising the prog scene.. but now, its all matter of the "Vendetta Trance" as i call their behavior. We all need something dfferent....

so far i have to say that plasmatika, moonsun and eternal motion have always payed as the agreed amounts!
cant say for others as we havent made any bussines with them!
but one thing i have to say is that greek artists in greece dont get payed the money they got when playing abroad even if the costs to bring an greek artist to perform in greece is even cheaper considering that promoters dont have to pay expensive flight tichets to get them to their event!

can u bring 200 people to a party
bring and il pay u 500euros bring me 1000 il pay u 1500euros
this is same every were.u bring u get
making music doesnt mean
that ure good u have to win the people respect
not only the promoters...if u dont bring people
i lose mabe even 4000 euros cose u wanted to play here lol
and dont say promoters bring the people
allways its mostly up to the namaes u bring
and there work cose people like them...

All above refers only to Free Frequency maybe some points are common for all promoters...
Why you or any other local DJ shall make this issue become a war??
1. The ticket of the party is calculated by many things not only the hole budget but what the owners of the place want...
Consider that NO ONE of the promoters in town OWN their place to throw parties...if that was possible then the tickets would be very low...or even better we would have free entrance parties.....but this is a dream...
2. Pls have in mind that foreign artists sometimes are cheap...but most of the times not...Don't want to speak for the hole expenses of a party...it's a lot to be covered...and many of you can't look behind the decks..coz you don't care...
3.If you wonder why there are few people in parties now days..think twice...
The last 2 years parties in Thessaloniki are taking place every weekend...at least 2 parties every Saturday..and you believe that the only reason that people don't come to parties are coz "we r the bad guys here"?? The market is getting very competitive and every promoter has to be alert...so you should...
You speak about new Dj's come across and play without get payed..and this is promoters problem or your??Of course a promoter will see and act to have the less cost for the budget...This is a general fact not promoters fault!! Although you have to careful as a promoter If you want quality music in your party...
4.As for playing abroad..bla bla....not all of you played abroad...but you can't compare situations and parties or festivals with Greece...Especially Germany or Italy or Mexico..which are countries that are bigger than Greece and with better basification..and we all know that..
5.I don't support promoters that don't pay at all!!This is not my way and not the right think to do....As for the money and who actually of you are really professionals... mmmm this is another big issue...as much as you want the promoters to be professionals you should try to be more professionals yourself.....100-150 euros...you think is not good money?? I think it's a reasonable price for a set....You take it tooooo personal...NO ONE BELIEVES THAT YOU DON'T DESERVE YOUR MONEY OR YOU DON'T PLAY WELL OR YOU DON'T GIVE YOUR BEST!!! But imagine in a party maybe you lose 50-100 euros....a promoter will lose more maybe 1000-2000 euros!!!! So you can't say if you don't have the money don't throw parties...it's not valid...There are so many thinks to take care of beside the artists(all of them) and so many unexpected situations..you can understand the hole point...If you see with your own eyes that a party didn't go well you will demand your money...but who will have to give you money??You believe that locals don't get payed cos they are locals....for me no it's not that...It goes like this >> I will see you in the future...We live in the same town...The foreign artist I won't see tomorrow.. and I prefer to owe you some money if a party doesn't go well that the foreign one...it's logical!!
6.Anyway the point is that we are in the same side but you don't get it...when promotes have to face with bad promoters and fu*** demanding owners and bla bla bla....you are a part of it!!! We face difficult situation..you do also coz you are a part of the hole party...If promoters stop throwing parties...you don't play...it's so simple!! If some promoters are shit..go and speak to them...
There are good and bad people in every small community as in our music...you decide with who you work and who you don't....
Pls I don't want to provoke anything it's just my opinion....
No one gets money from music...believe me I ve lost money and still going on..You think that I m doing that to satisfy my ego??? I can find better thinks to do than lose so much money and energy.....but it's something that I love doing...and wish I ll have enough strength to continue...
