If I hadn't downloaded a cracked version of Ableton a year and a half ago...I would never have spent the thousands of dollars I have spent on music gear both hardware and software.
If I hadn't downloaded pirated versions of music I would (probably) never have heard of some of the artists that I now support monetarily.
To me that very simply means that Piracy is not completely 100% evil.
Also - just because you spend time and money on something that you love doesn't mean you deserve monetary reward for it

All music that can be heard can be ripped and pirated, and if the option is available then people will always do it. There's no way around it its just something people need to adapt to.
In my opinion, music producers should feel privileged to have people who love their music even if they don't decide to pay for it. It should be about the love of the music and not money - music production is much more accessible now and there's so many people who love doing it that nobody can really 'expect' to get paid for it.
and agree with willsanquil, if it werent for piracy i would never heard loads of the stuff which i love and happily support. |
