People who make us happy with their music are also living beings and have the need to make some cash out of music so they can live.
if not, they get a day job they hate just to pay the rent and when they get home at night they got no apetite to make music for me and you to like.
It's that simple.

But I am not sure certain people get the point as they are caught up in fulfilling their own needs on the cost of other people's lives
We live in a period of time with severe egotism

let me make it clear to the forum users:
If it is on Ektoplasm it is free, a gift, etc.
If it is on Psyshop, Beatport etc. it is not free. Meaning you should pay, not go bit torrent.
With all these statements made in this thread and elsewhere, there has never been one that gives me a valid reason why music should be free.

So something is WRONG. don't you think?
What is wrong?
Piracy?
or...
our stupid brains that are destroying our lives and this wonderful world in the name of money and power?
You don't get what i am trying to say guys. and its pretty hard for me to speak english.
You say that there should be no piracy, i say that there should be no money.
its another perspective
and yes again you still need money to survive in this system but i'm not the one that will pay for music. i don't have money! sorry!
i don't do anything bad to this world if i listen to downloaded music at home! get used to it. this system holds me from buying music. its that simple.

Let's get back to reality and wake up from that UTOPIA dream of yours. Reality IS that the world use money to make the wheels spin and no matter how badly you like to see a world free of money (it wont happen) then Piracy is still illegal and no matter your bad excuses you have no right whatsoever to steal people's copyrighted work. Can we continue the debate on a realistic level thanks?

Hi,
I found both your views really interesting.
But I feel Beat Agency is correct. Money will be there no matter how bad you want to remove it. Its the lubricant on the wheel of life.
Well, coming back to the topic. There must be something one can do to lock the file from being copied.

Hello Upavas
I liked your idea on Ektoplazm vs Distributors comparing it to what is already "free" vs what is not
It should explain any doubts anyone has

You may say i'm a dreamer but i'm not the only one, i hope some day you will join us and the world will live as one.
That was my last post, because you don't feel what i'm trying to say, and i feel like a stranger here, or actually i feel you as strangers here. because psychedelic trance had nothing to do with money when it started. now in 2011 its only money and glamourness. bye bye

I do get your point but simply do not agree. Don't act like you are being misunderstood. You are not
I have been part of this scene as an artists since 1994 and I can easily tell you this scene has always been about money. You would be very surprised if you knew how many artists, labels and organizers was into this scene because of money from day one. And a scene no matter genre simply can not exist without money to spin the wheels.
Many artists also do music because they can not live without music in their lives. I am one of them. But that does not mean we should not be paid. One does not rule out the other.

The marginal cost of producing an additional copy of a piece of music is zero
The marginal cost of producing an additional car is significant.
Because of these facts, you cannot compare stealing a car with "stealing" music. |

So according to your logic it's OK to steal music?
Could you and the rest of those who think it's all dandy OK to steal music give the rest of us one good valid reason why you should not be called thieves and if possible be prosecuted for not following the law?

The evolution of distribution of music has exceeded the amount of money we are willing to pay for it. For example: someone with 20k mp3's wouldn't have bought 2K of cd's at €17 each. It's as simple as that too.
There is so much music around and making it has become so 'democratic' that from now on there will always be a huge amount of music to be listened to for free (youtube, soundcloud, etc). Comparing that situation with that of the same level of production and distribution in a world where all music has to be bought is mixing up different times in an economic utopia (yes, THAT is the utopia, not the other way around).
Look at it at from a functional point of view. (some) music is still bought, artists still get money from playing and they are still making more (sweet) music for us to hear. They will never stop and if they do, others will take their place. The fact that in times (10 years now?) where most music is 'stolen' from the internet, there still is more music and more is made then it ever was!
And in the end, talent will always be there and find ways to make themselves heard. It's a win-win situation. Look at it from the bright side.
edit: another argument: I assume warez and h2o&air is stealing too, right? If you use the argument that artists need a job to pay their bills and they can't make music doing it, less good music is being made. Well, what if the prodigy child that downloaded warezed vsti's only never got his plugins and never was able to make the sublime music he is making because he never got the chance to make it because daddy didn't give him €5k to make music? He wouldn't have made the music because otherwise he was a thief...

I will repeat myself one more time. Stealing is stealing no matter how many bad excuses you guys come up with.
But hey no problem. Next time you get paid from work I'll take your money as it's my right to do so. After all it's only paper and paper can be copied www.beatagency.dk |
