Hi guys, i want to make a release for my label when i can put a live act recording from some artist.
the live set is not a live version of an album, but one track released for one va on one label, second track on ep, third on another va etc...

I want to know if this is legal, and do i need to pay something or make deals with the label that the track was released before?

i see now the album from kalilaskov as
http://forum.isratrance.com/kalilaskov-as-killas-2008-digicd006-digital-drugs-coalition/

all the tracks are released before, so if this is ok, why should live set release not be ok?

i need opinions about this kind of releases from you guys           VA - Spiritual Science out now!

You need permission from the people/label that own the rights to the music you wanna release. Its illegal otherwise.

no. you need the opinion of those who you want to realese their tracks or the copyrights owners (could be the label/artist/copyright managment authority)           www.sattelbattle.com

Are you actually talking to and working with this guy or not? If you aren't, then this is totally illegal and you need to talk to him about it before you do anything else. If you are, he needs to agree with what you want to do and your intentions for payment and everything else, then he needs to get permission from all of the labels that released the tracks you want to use, or just go by what his contracts say. It might be a different story if they're live remixes.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

would it be a proper cd release or just a digital download?

Wish more acts would record high quality live sets, even if done in their studios, and put them out           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

If they are live remixes I don't see what the problem is... if they are the same as the CD trax then I don't know how you can call it the live set??

I will be privately distributing my liveset sometime mid this year with accompanying visuals... The only reason i would do this is because all the trax are performed live and are fully re-arranged/remixed.

OK, I'll explain.

The basic rule is that to use a track which you don't hold the copyright to, you must have permission of the copyright owner. That permission should be recieved in writing (a signed contract or license request). The terms of the permission are to be agreed between you (one time fee, royalties, free, credit only, etc.).

Now if a track was released in another label in an exclusive deal and they own the copyright then you must get their permission.

It does not matter if this is not the original version usually, as unless the contract states differently the copyright to the original recordings includes also versions/edits/remixes.

So in order to release that live set, you have to contact all that hold copyright to tracks in it, and get their permission.           ---------------------------------------------

i am also intereste in releasing a video live set too, this scene need something fresh, there are tons of compilations selling outhere and there are a few dvds released...
back to the audio live set recording:
rmxed live sounds very cool, and i think its impossible to make your live set sounds like the original tracks too, but how will you judge if the live set is rmxed or original sounds

No just pure nice quality live trance remixes,

I'd much rather a live dvd of an artist performing, like Son Kite's, than just trippy visual to a track I already own on cd!           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

+1 I second that ... If were dishing out $30 or above for a dvd at least give us something exclusive.
