don't get you...
traktor is the prog for all this, and the fact pitch shifts, is like on records, u press a finger on the label, and the pitch changes.
now for the soft - i don't understand:
on 1 hand you want to record your mix
[traktor studio is exactly for this]
on other you want to play it live, with emu soft.

if you want to make a "show"....you can cheat:)
as long as u do it good enough.
you record your "live mix" with traktor or even in logic/cubase ok?
then you run it, and play with the DJ emu deck on the 1st screen. in the transitions you can make many complicated movements of a mouse to make an impression. is it so hard ?
i don't use DJ software... so i can't help you with it..

Hey DjaSteel,

In Traktor, You CANNOT change the tempo without changing the pitch. I wish it was possible :-(.
Traktor is the best emulation for DJ equipment, so there aren't any other progs you can try.

I advise you to match all the tracks' tempo in sound forge using plug-ins, and then mix them using Traktor.

Peace,
Tom.

djaSteel Yo,

U can change bpm without changin' your pitch. That's called 'Time Stretching' - you can find this function in most of the editors, for example Sound Forge.
The problem with time stretchin' is that some quality of the track gets lost eventually - tho I have heard about some stretchers that are leave the wav file almost the same.
That shouldn't put you off from mixin' your trax on the computer ( i hope that is what u had in mind, I was too lazy and didn't follow after the whole conversation ;-) )
Act like a dj -
1. Find the point at which u want the following track to kick in ( here, exact work is necessary - and I mean 3 numbers after the . )
2. Use some sort of EQ on the part of the track that is before the point u chose, so it will cut off it's bass ( Lo-Cut/Shelf )
3. Use the time stretch on the part u just edited, to fit it to the first track speed.

Now things get a little tricky ;-)

4. Calculate on the first track when the second should kick in ( mathematics ufff ), mark it and use the EQ on the last part of the track to kill it's bass as u did with the first one
5. Time stretch it so it will fit the second track

6. Mix between the two ( Cut and Paste Special/Mix in the Forge )

Sounds awkward, works very well and when u used to it, it's piece of cake

Cheers

Ohh I forgot and ofcourse feel free to use fade ins/outs where is needed and different FX can b good too for tweaking the linking points ( not on both of the wav's mostly, use the one that u just cut off it's bass, it'll be a little les messier )

And when u stretchin' them, there are quite a few different algorithms for that, so find the one that does that the best way - Different sound likes different time stretch )

I forgot to say that I was a DJ not so long time ago, but anyway thanks for the answer Yuli :)

... and now after all that software testign I see that the best emulation of DJ equipment is DJ equipment itself :)))

Um.. dunno what you're talking about, djaSteel.. ALL hardware DJ equipment changes the pitch of a song when you change the tempo (assuming you're talking about turntables and cd decks)

look etherdesign ...

I agree with you if we talk about turntables. But I think every CD deck can change tempo without changing of pitch (for instance Denon 2000).

And there are some key-points in this discussion.
1) The best DJ-emulation soft is Traktor, that's clear. But it emulates turntables and changes pitch as well.
2) I've tested this proggy and found that it's too hard to mix some tracks using it's suncronization algorythm. Sometimes it works wrong. If you don't use any automatic mode, then it's very hard to produce an excellent mix.
3) It's possible to buy not expensive hard and make your mix at home. But before you go to the shop you must ask yourself only one question - what do I want to achieve by doing that?

that's all

Why to emulate dj through a computer??

It's far easier ( and more fun ) to dj...

If u already prepare a mix through a pc then use the possibilities it gives u to manipulate sound ;-)

Just a thought

hey Yuli ...

you're right and I want to go this way, but now we have next question. I'll explain.

Most part of my collection is stored on CD's (200+), not on vinyls. Then it's understood that I should buy 2 CD desks or CD double-player. The best model for me now is Denon 2500.

Could anybody suggest something else (not turntables) ?

If cash isn't too much of an obstacle, try to get hold of some pioneer CDJ 100's if it is, Vestax or Denon are probably a better bet.

is Pioneer CDJ100 is a double deck or just separate single?
And please give me more info about models from other producers ...
