Hello psys ...

just a question. I'm going to make something like live set. I don't have an equipment and want to use a software to do that. Could you advice something to me?

Thanks in advance,
djaSteel

Hmm.
Assuming that the music making software you use responds to MIDI then you should really get a MIDI controller. I believe this has been discussed in another thread here. Although it is possible to do it with software alone a MIDI controller will be very much useful.
Before trying to make a live performance on stage try to do something like that at home. Get a friend to listen to you in action. He will tell you if you're doing it ok or need to improve.

Hey DjaSteel,

I recommend Traktor by Native instruments. Best mixing software out there (check out the links section under mix vibes).

thanks for the replies guys.

Tom, is it possible to mix 2 mp3 tracks in Traktor? Is it an emulation of a DJ equipment with pitch-control?

Yeah, you can mix two mp3, audio tracks, whatever you want.
It emulates DJ equipment quite impressively, with pitch control, automatic BPM matcher, EQ, playlist and more.

Very cool Prog!

the problem with mp3 is the sound quality, guys, even 320 kbps sounds like mp3.
maybe there's a point uploading CDs into harddisk
and using some virtual mixer for playing from 3 sources:CD, hd and line in of the sound card.
the files from HD can be pitch shifted/time stretched easily with wavelab, and it's possible to do it live [in wavelab u can apply effect duing the track is playing]

this way you get both quality, and more sources to mix from

bilbo: mp3 is not = wav. so its better to mix original cd's or vinyls. however, pls note that after a test with some sound-experts, they could not differentiate between a cd and 320 kbps mp3 file.

however... working with mp3 files is nearly perverse ;)

i agree about ATRAC compression (MD)- it is really near to the original, but mp3 ... no way.
you can easily encode files of acoustic instruments: piano, violine, voice and they sound ok. even distorted guitar sounds ok.
but we're talking about trance...and  synths with uhf and subsonic basslines ... hmm they don't sound good on mp3.
try it yourself.

and another question.
When I'm changing the pitch for the track which means BPM-rate the tone of is changing also.
Is it possiple to change BPM-rate without such an effect? Because normal hardware DJ equipment does not do this, you could just change the BMP and the sound will stay the same, only tempo will be changed. Any suggestions?

the proggie called "Recycle"
does what you want: you can pitch shift without tempo change and
tempo change without pitch shifting...
as u understand, it's a signal processing issue, so you can do it in software... i don't know about the quality in realtime, but it is possible to do.

tell what exactly do u want to do:
a transition of the mixing part ?
maybe tempo change for the entire track ?

Hi Bilbo

I need to mix several tracks which means a productions of a set. The point I mentioned in a last post was unclear because of my language, sorry :)

I need to know how could I change tempo of a track without pitch changes in Traktor if it's possible at all. If not, please suggest something else (not the Recycle, because it seems that it's not an amulation of a DJ hardware).

And a second thing I need to know in the meantime is a way to program Traktor to play mix automatically.
