Hello,
This is slightly off-topic, but I'd like you to share your thoughts on a method to perform live using hardware synths only (i.e. reals synths, hardware sequencers and a drum kit).
On one hand, to perform live, you could play everything by hand, but there are always simultaneous tracks to play, the performance has to be accurate, and you always have to think ahead of time to make the performance evolve progressively. This is unfeasible by a normal human being - too much to deal with at the same time.
On the other hand, you could simulate turning knobs on a synth that is not even connected sometimes (LOL), while playing an MP3 containing a 60min mix prepared in the studio
I'm searching for a method that fit somehow in-between
I'd like to set up a few hardware instruments in such a way to give free rein to my imagination during the live performance, albeit having some note sequences prerecorded and some sounds prepared beforehand. The result has to be very good, obviously (no feeling of too much repetition or monotony). Special effects and occasional sounds would have to be integrated into the mix too. And I want to stick to our beloved genre (I don't want to shift to house music, which would be arguably easier to perform live).
This is a challenge! Lots of trade-offs, but I'd like your take on this
What kind of gear would you use? How would you do?
Thanks!
