yes well I know that for most stuff we have the 4/4 beats but for tribal stuff do most producers use real acoustic instruments or samples?
I have a mate who has some very nice microphones for recording such things, and we plan to records a lot of our stuff using real drums as opposed to samples... any other artists than Etnoscope doing this?           --- Love In Light, Dance In Darkness ---

i dont think that any trance could be live drums 100%
sure , they have that, but it must involve also some sampling in percussions           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

Really? I know my good friend here who is teaching me a lot int he way of synthersizers only used samples etc. for his kick, snare and cymbals... for all the tribal sounds he uses live recording of himself or his friends playing the instruments... we know that for live shows we probaly won;t do this, wll also because we don't really play live, we only dj so far with his Virus TI and Mac alongside for added tweakage... it might change when I get my own mini studio running tho... but we would live to incorporate live drums in our show... we already are working on some more industrial stuff with a live drum from one of the local death metal metal bands... we layer the synths over the top of his drumming, whereas live we usually just have the synths triggered by by his bass drum, and we tweake it through the mixing console...           --- Love In Light, Dance In Darkness ---

i use real percussion once in a while and it does make a difference something bout the way u hit it the angle on the drum head , and the touch - velocity is beyond
it also helps make the other sounds in the drums sound
more real, i've done it on hip hop productions and it really makes it stand out more,

yeah working with this black/death metal drummer has been fun... we've decided we want to record some stuff entirely based on his drums and just synths layered over the top... his drumming is pretty good... we're going along the lines of the drumming style used by Raymond Herrera in the "Demanufacture" album by Fear Factory... it's kinda hard to play the melodies at the speed he plays the drums though, and we don;t want it to be just quirky sounds, we want structure through melody... we might consider adding guitar in as well if we find someone with the right sound... right now it sounds abit basic, kind of lie the sound track to a Command & Conquer game           --- Love In Light, Dance In Darkness ---

I need to learn drumming. I'd love to put some live drumming, but laziness beats me.

yeah drums are hard to learn, hence why I already work with a pro metal drummer... but I'd love to learn to play some more ethnic based drums... a tribal feel...           --- Love In Light, Dance In Darkness ---

It's not about the feel, tribal or whatever. It's the actual rythms. It's much easier to make a variable and thus more interesting groove with live drums.

everyone can drum. you just take a pair of sticks and beat unto drums. everyone with a sense for rhythm can do it. you have it. you can drum.           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!
