Can someone guide me how to go about this.(Kinetic, Shanti)- adding a live element to a DJ set? DJ'ing off cdj's and vinyl , but i want to improvise with a keyboard over some parts of a track,i know its possible if all done in time with the music. Not tried it yet, though.

well, u need a synth with sequencer or a groovebox if u want to add sounds. make presets, udjust bpm and trust/practice your timing....:) or- get a drum machine, program beats and add all the rest. which ever- u need a LOT of practice.

What I think is very posible is to get a sampler with a touchpad and then cue up some banks of samples of pads or loops or precusion and play them from the sampler while DJing. with the CDJ 500 you can loop your own loops and mix them into the mix. with the CDJ 100 you can cue up a sound you have on the CD and punch it in with the cue button. you can also work with effects (if you have them in the mixer) or with an external efect module. or as shanti said a drum machine or a synthisizer. but I like the sampler Idea the best (some of the samplers have an audio input, or a beat pad so you can pitch the samples to the speed you need very easily) but still alot of practice needed. Ritchie Hawtin (AKA Plasticman) was touring recently with his Dex Efx and 909 show, his set up was 2 1200's (Technics TT's) an alesis multiefect module with a footswitch mostly for reverbs and echos and a Roland 909 drum machine. and man the dude can do live Techno on his 909 alone. he also switches about 40-50 records per hour Technicly He's gooooood. butr as we both say Practice makes perfect. |

Chaitu - may the force be with u... u r embarking on a very loooooooong jurney if u gonna go the live dj set way. i like the sampler idea too but start with a groove box (Rorand mc303), easiest way to learn, tap bpm, many rps presets, good fun.

10 x guys, i got some excellent ideas to work around. I must tell you though the best effect I've laid my fingers on is in my cdj-100 - Jet! incredible one for making breaks, atmospheres etc, I've heard this one used a lot by simon on all his stuff as well:) |

I got a Roland Sp 808 You can do it with these ? I havnt figured it out much. Since I bought it I used it 10 times. Not for any live DJ Set or anything But I also have those Electribes, I was thinking of a live but those sounds on the electribes the kickdrum sounds little weak maybe it sounds better if I tap the tempo on it and mix it under the tracks or something ? Let me know about your concerns/comments ? Boom |
