actually i wanted to open a thread like this..but with some prooves....thats why i agree with colin
lets show some videos...and describe what is exactly live in those videos
IMHO....infected mushroom are the best live act..you may not like their music.....but their live act is one of a kind

Well, I agree that some videos are necesary and its the whole point of this topic, to share our experiences in parties I think people in this forum will recognize a truly live act and also say why its one.

Alias....why laugh at the artist that do a live act....???
if in your opinion (and its quite true...just not the best imho) IM are the best....why laugh at people who are top producers, and every time i heard them play, it was actually live...
if you dont like the style....why comment? i assure you all the artist (even if i dont have a video) listed are creating music on stage.....respect that!!
i can see why having more videos...IM are considered the best...

Sun Project....great live performance. IMHO nothing complex in their music, but excellent LIVE act. their are one of the pioneers that doing such live shows.

What is the point of this topic? To busted some projects or what? I dont give fuck what artist do on stage if he send awesome vibes from his head to my ears through the speakers. Ok, sets all step up on stage and WATCH what artist do, not hear. Nonsensicaly. BTW when artist come to play his music on stage in front of you he play LIVE!!! Nobody else play his music, HE PLAY. And did you ever figure that is exist lot of tracks which lose they value when play some DJ instead of artist who compose that track. I feel that many times (one of example IM - Deeply Disturb). How many times organizer can fix all needing gear for live. Do you know how mush will cost to some project bring all that is need for "real live", what you call. This is not pop, rock, metal bend or something like that. This is electronic music with bunch of channels which can not play one or two ppl.
With standard stage equipmet You can play some synths or pads or something like that over background and bla bla and thats all.
I dont know why ppl obsess they mind with such things like that. For that what you hear on party, that hour and a half of someone performance, need at least 2 years of hard working. For 2 hour DJ set you need 2 hour of hard skilling and thats the difference. Leave live act performers a lone, better look up for fakers at DJs. Much more you will find there who deserve to be named like that!

How about, the point is, a lot of psytrance sounds generic now and no room for improvisation?
If there are a few "musicians" who actually know to play keyboards and work sequencers, or a program like ableton. It really is possible to play "live"... coming up with new things, never the same sound. Sounds like a pretty interesting concept to me.
Example: a Hiphop MC, what do they do in shows. They have a minus 1 playing and just rapping over it. Would be much better with an actual band behind it.
Similarly, most psytrance artists DJs nowadays, its the same thing, the just playing their tracks on the CD and adding melodies/stabs on top? this not real live.
I'v seen a few live shows, and the people that really blew my mind were SUN Project.https://www.djjeto.com

Man, look, you cant compare Hip hop, RnB, Soul with electronic music. Why? Cause when you play break rhythm you can improvise non stop and every next hit on drum is different or have lot of breaks. At electronic music like trance especially, you cant sit on drum and hit 4x4 non stop with totally same time spaces between two kicks. THERE IS NO WAY!!! Second, to keep that tempo somehow, you need to put breaks from time to time, cause if dont know, change in same rhythm makes you keep tempo almost as original and whats happen when you put in 4x4 groove, breaks often? This is not 4x4 its beginning to be break beat!!! Especially at music with trance elements. Third, improvisation is ok of course, but you can do improvisation with background of tracks. This is not problem to do it.
Anyway, about SUN Project, they are 3 ppl in project and they have many more possibility then one guy on scene. And honestly, guitar, drums (pads and hats) & key seems to me pretty similarly improvisation according to one guy in band who play key over background, isn it. Just visual is MUCH MUCH MUCH BIGGER AND BETTER to see as scene performance and of course that imppessum is thousand times biggest.
BTW if we talk about live performance about you talk non stop to artists should play, ladies and gentlemans i give you SHULMAN!!!
BUT dont forget that is AMBIENT ETNO project, which is much more easier to perform with instruments then psy, progressive, full on... trance music. Even there in Ambient music you have parts that goes as background and band play over it.
BTW do you know how much will cost one performance like that? How much gear need to put on stage (which is the smallest problem according to other things)? Many projects even dont play "live" they music as full live set, just put few tracks of they own in DJ set and this is it (Paul Van Duke, Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, ex Deep Dish etc etc...)
Also many times iv heard on parties something like "Oh shit, this is not original version from CD, this is crap!".
To who you can accommodate today???

Best live for me ever is Hallucinogen. One man doing all that stuff on so many keyboards and stuff is just amazing...

Are we talk about bands performance or standard live act procedure on stage?
BTW give to some artists 5-6 indians and pay to them 10X higher cost of booking and they will play live like that. Also there is about 90% of background music.

i have to agree on some of it , if you pay me x10 for the show sure i can get 3 peaple to play live
but this is trance scene not fantasy ah.. party org. would defintly rather me to play cds then pay 2 more flight tickets
so my live is divided to 3
1. what i can realy do (background synthesis etc)
2.what i dream i can do with more budget - more equipment - more players - not happened yet
3.what i cant dream yet to do - this can only come after huge commercial success - it takes rediculous amount of money to set up something like this - and i meen complete show includ lazers and all

elad my friend, first of all its not hallucinogen's track on that video
it's prometheus's track if i'm not mistaken
second, he is always changing his live sets....may be he is not playing real live in every party....but he always making different version\remakes of his tracks
you talking about the money...i'm not sure the money is the issue here
as you can see erez for example playing on synth that you can play on every festival....colin from oood playing on simple midi keyboard
but for some reason 90% of artists do not doing this!
