Hi everybody!
recently i was asked to do a live act, apart from the fact that i don't really feel ready,i mainly use Reason 3 to make my music and i can imagine a live made with it,but i'm not really shure cos i don't have that much experience with real machines ,and i'm just starting to feel the vst's,i use cubase for mixing and mastering.
Allready seen other posts talking about it but didn't really answered to the question:
Can u do it,and if so how would u set it up?
Thanx

It's quite possible.

Some of the kids I teach did a performance using Reason. The way we did it was to change patterns in a few Matrix sequencers using the computer keyboard (you can assign keys to individual patterns), assign mixer mutes to keys on a MIDI keyboard, and use a MIDI fader box and the knobs on the MIDI keyboard to change mixer levels, instrument/FX parameters, etc. This way three people were able to have control over various aspects of the track simultaneously.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

If you've got any cash to splash Novation do the REmote SL, which controls any element of Reason just by selecting it with the mouse. You can alter parameters, play notes (obviously) and change patterns, it also has drum triggers. Give it a look.
Oh, and it also works with most other main sequencers, albeit slightly differently.

Sorry for suggesting 'spend cash!' but sometimes it has to be done. The mouse it such a slow tool for live performances.

Hey Colin, didn't know you teach. Okay, I'm new around the forums but perhaps you could PM me with some details if you teach to an adult level? I was going to spend money on going to Cubase/Mastering lessons, but I'd much rather be with someone who has at least a similar taste in music and someone I admire.

Thanx guys,
That was kinda what i thought of Colin,so i guess that i have to spend money twice
On the midi keyboard and on the Novation (thing that i really don't know what it is,is it a keyboard?)

No worries.

The Novation REmote looks like a synth, but it doesn't produce any sound. It just controls your VST's in Cubase or instruments and effects racks in Reason. It's just a load of knobs, faders, buttons that control what you would normally do with the mouse. The keyboard is for entering note data (it has weighted keys with aftertouch) better than the Piano roll, but if you have a VST selected you could play that VST live.

Picture here http://www.novationmusic.com/enlargepicture.asp?id=356

Note the LED screen displays whatever you have selected in your sequencer so no need to label all your buttons

hey, there is also PeterTools Live Set, who was recently reviewed onComputer Musis (it also featured at th DVD).

It looks just like reason, and from what i`ve heard it has some crazy features made exclusively to control Reason via Rewire, focused on using Reason for a live act.
One of those tools is called Impact and its made to control more complex patterns, just like Collin said. It also has reloop.

I suggest you try downloading a demo

i had the same problem..was asked to do a live set...and i use reason...well...what im doing is i solo a synth or two from my track...export each soloed synth in a .wav..then i export everything else except the synth into one wav...stick em in the ableton sequencer...add some fx on top of the synth sequence and automate some new fx on top of the synths...

Hi,
Punkah, tried the demo thanx ,it seems to have possibilities, have to check it a bit more time .

Neuromyth, from what i understood u export the whole wav of a song except a synth?i was more thinking in terms of using lots o' patterns in matrix sequencer for basses , various synths , fx's in malstroms or subtractors ,a kick ,some snares ,hats and throwing them as i feel liket it,and a little notebook to keep track of it all guess the Novation REmote would work fine that way €€€

that would be a cool way to do it too...but...alot of work...but what im talking about is exporting the synth alone in a .wav then exporting the rest of the track with the synth muted...so u have the synth alone on one track and u can automate it with all these fxs n such...I dont use matrix for reason tho...but...what r u gonna do about song transitions...reason runss low when u have two tracks open usualy...u dont want it lagging ...dont know if thats just me but it does it for me and my friend...and sometimes when i start a track with alot of patterns it plays different patterns at times so i gotta let the track play once to the patterns go back to normal..
