Yello!!
I'd like to know how to change from one track to another in fruityloops. Do you use a vst that continues to play the previous track (with some kind of effect..)? Do you need to rewire ir to another prog or can this be made just with fls?
Thankz friends

I've done several liveacts using Fruityloops and indeed it is impossible to switch from track to track when each track goes up to 80% cpu... The trick I did was to open one track, play it live in FL (controlling vsti's thru midi) and then play a or several wavs (rendered parts of another song) in another program. Did it with ableton once. I rendered different parts of each track (like bass+ kick, synths, rest of the sounds) and sent them to different mixerchannels (hardware mixer offcourse) in order to keep some live aspect in it. When ableton was running I loaded the next FL project. But I have to say it is tricky shit... While loading you can get cpu peaks and when they're too big things might go wrong for a second (they always do once per liveset). You can forget beatmixing in this setting, make sure you have some loop to fill up the short gaps (my rule was: not more than 30 secs without beat/some sort of percussion).
Another option is to render each track in different wavs (again: bass + kick, synths, rest... depends on how much outs you have). Import those wavs in playlist and ake one big project. Like this you can beatmix (at home) and it is one continuos project. You can still add some vsti's in this big project that you play/adjust live as long as your cpu holds it. But it's all very timeconsuming, preparing all of this. It all depends on how much 'live character' you want to give your set. |

Why don´t you export the frutiloops tracks and sequence them in cubase/logic? it will make things a lot easier... |

2 laptops runnin Fruity and an external mixer looks like the best (and more secure) way to me.
I would otherwise go with bandarlog's way (playing some wavs in another prog while loading next project) but as he mentioned cpu
could go nuts while loading , causing buffer overruns trrrtttttttrrrrrtttttrrrrrrrrrttt
cheers

yeah but still: it's no more than a second, I promise you Playing wavs in a program doesn't take much cpu (maybe few % from the program itself). It's the loading that might peak to 100% for a sec if you're unlucky.
@Fluosamsara: You could do that, but the inserting all your tracks as wavs is easy in FL too... only thing is that you aren't playing live much then.
(But then again: look around to other acts....mastered wavs in a row) |

And what about in other synths (reason, for example)?
This new year at a party I heared neuromotor screw up. the music started getting slower and slower until total stop and there was nothing they could do about it.I presumed that they had some kind of Vst effect that would do that so they can open the other project.
We could always use a sampler to change from one project to another.. |

But this way you couldnt call it much a live. Most would be done at home,so there would be no mistakes. Thats cheating!!
Nowadays I only consider a live concert as a live act. In a normal live act the artist just about only plays one ore two instruments in a song. Well, thats what i normaly do in a normal set when I have my laptop with me..
And two laptops will work but not everybody has that. So probable its better to just sample it. |

Look closely to what a lot (a very big lot) of live acts are doing... Most is always done at home. It's computermusic, not a rockband. When I play live I only have 2 hands (when not playing live too) and they are always busy... Even when several wavs are playing. You can still do a live PA. |

doing my first liveshow in 2 weeks. we are exporting our tracks to ableton live. arrange the basic songs in there. then we are taking many of our midi files, and importing them into our Virus and we r going to play a layered synth on top of the recorded ones and tweak the Virus live. Will also play some live simple riffs too. But this way, if the Virus fucks up, we still have the leads from the recorded version playing. Will also be tweaking FX and stuff on the fly. Hopefully this will work well! |
