Live act and equipment help

Hello,
I'm going to have my first live act and I have some questions about what equipment is being used. I've been told just to bring my laptop. Now the problem is I don't have an external sound card yet. Do I even need it because I don't use midi controller? Is the standard line-out on the laptop going to do the job? If anyone can fill me on details please do tell.

better get an external card dude... unless it is a macbook. Built in laptop cards have not the best ouput quality. |

hey, why unless the macbook?
i use an mbp, and while i never noticed the output was bad, i never bothered to even consider using it for anything serious. are they actually decent enough to play live?
