Listening to your own tunes too much

Hmm I hope this topic is

a) not stupid, and
b) not too close to the thread about 'mood', but:

you know when you are writing a tune and you listen to it about 1000000 times and you find you can no longer make any judgment about it.... especially when you are mixing down etc....? Does anyone have any thoughts about how to cope with this?

I guess one usual idea is to have several tunes 'on the go' and switch between them every few sessions.... When you come back to an older tune it can sound totally fresh and different I think...

Also yesterday I was working on a tune with loads of synth and also loads of percussion. I just turned off _all_ the synth parts and worked on the percussion.... it sounded so different that I was able to work on it again for ages without getting bored..... and then I put all the synth back in....

there are allways ways to change a track, not allways for the better. I listen to my tunes all the time, and everytime I'm thinking "Hmm, this drum loop needs a change" and than the road is open. i think listening to your own music is never too much. we humans are at a constant quest to better ourselves. as well as our tracks.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. Jason you're completly right ther's always a way of getting it better and the only way to do this is listen to it lots and lots of times.

I think that the best judgment you can get is
from other people who listen a lot of music,
try some friends who collects muic!

Listen to your track 1000000 times or even
more, you should know every second of it...

And finally I want to say that there is always
a way of getting you music better, new tricks
and new plug's, new hardware and software...bom:)

> a way of getting you music better

it's true and i agree with you... but I think it's best after a certain point to start writing a new tune.... i mean there are only a small number of hours in the day .....

but i agree it is good to go back to some old tunes after a break and remix them with all the new technology (new plugins etc).....

> you should know every second of it

it's like peanut butter: i know what a peanut butter sandwich tastes like.... totally.... but if i was to eat peanut butter sandwiches all day for a week then it would be time for some jam. Maybe some more peanut butter in a month or so.... or maybe stick with jam... i dunno.

> from other people who listen a lot of music

this is definitely helpful if you are too close to a tune..... and fun.....

sorry for the stupid post.... just back from beers with tom and asi:)

...or you could mix the peanut butter and the jam together for entirely different taste: in other words take an old track and combine it's elements in with a newer track. I get rid of boredom alot by doing this.

the problem is not that you have listened to it a million times after it was finished...
the problem is that you heard it a million x a million times while you were making it...

there are tracks from other artists that we all love and heard even more times than our best track... but we will never get bored of it cause we didn't witness its birth (wow... i liked that....)

there is no way to cope with it... but i do agree that if a track of yours made you get bored eventually, the track isn't good enough...           in search for an answer...

well... i agree with mostly of the things u sayed here.

and i never stuck on tunes for long time coz its getting me bored and loosing focus on the long term

anyway i need my ears to relax some times..

so its all about the situation

the most hard thing is to work with repetetive patterns and then listening to the tune from the begigngn so many times and stuff like that..

i always sound my music to other ppl so i can see their reaction and their judgment about my creation

its better to test it on understanding ppl and then on the not

peace and love for all the creators!:)           ***dread controls***
