Hey!

Please give my first track ever a listen at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/hongobongomusic.htm . I've only been working with cubase for about 3 months or so so please don't have high expectations!

I made this song as a final exam for a cubase class I'm taking in school.

Since I'm all new to this stuff I'd like to get your opinions about what more to do. I have hardly used any effects (inserts or sends) at all because I find it hard to know what can be done with them. Any ideas?

So please if you have any suggestions or whatever, bring it on. But remember: don't expect a KILLLLLLLEERRRRR here

hi Honguito.
Great to hear you have finished a track for the first time
but but but.

Your intro is a little boring, try to use some more sounds, without it gets all mixed up
Kick needs EQ.
The bass melody is acceptable, untill 05:00 it sounds like your kick are "hitting the bassline" if you know what I mean.

Synths : Good good, dont got so much to say about them, maybe it would be good to use some automain with the frequency.

Good luck with all!!
I hope you could use my oppinion.

Wyatt: indeed your reply was REALLY helpful! I was already aware of that the intro is really boring. I wanted to create a dark and scary atmosphere but as you say it needs more sounds and variety. Right now it's way to monotoneus and with boring sounds in a bad way of arrangement. The intro also needs to be shorter as I see it. Bahhh maybe I'll try something totally new for an intro because as I said, this is my first track ever, which in turn means that the intro was my VERY first MIDI & audio arrangement. As I continued working on the track, on the more kicking parts, I became more secure about how to arrange the MIDI and audio in a less-primitive way But unfortunately I don't have that much time left before I have to finish it for good and handle it in to the teacher so I think instead of creating a totally new intro I'll just follow your advice instead: adding more sounds but also short it down.

About the kick: I really felt that it didn't harmonize that good with the rest of the song but didn't really knew what to do about it. I'll try to do some EQ'ing as you and NeuRo.TransmitteR say. Hopefully it will make it sound better. Thanks for that tip, both of you

The bassmelody: I'm quite satified with that one except that I think it's a little bit to distinctive from the rest of the song. You say it sound like it "hits the bassline" at 05:00 and I understand what you mean. Atleast I think I do. But that was also my intention to do. But you might be right, it may sound a bit lame. I'll give it a critical listen.

About the synths: I like the synthmelody too. The thing is I haven't learned about automation yet but I'll do it tonight or tomorrow night. I told you I was a newbie to all this

About the tempo: you're right there NeuRo.TransmitteR . I tried with 130BMP instead and immediately it sounded more danceable. But now the kick started to give ticking sounds Maybe EQ:ing can change that? I'll try out and see. Or maybe I'll try to create my own kick in stomper hyperion...

Hehe yeah I'm aware of that I need to work hard on the track and on my skills. But even though this track is crappy I'm still quite satisfied that I created my first song ever. If the situation would be that I'd worked with cubase for a year but didn't produce anything better than this, then I'd have a reason to be sad

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIPS AND IDEAS!

One last thing (if anyone cared to read all this shit): Any advice about what could be done to the bassmelody to make it sound less TauPro-ish?

Of cause somebody will read it, like me

And your other thing, about the bass melody, first of all. If you search somewhere at Isratrance you will find a kick package.
Well, put the BMP on 145
Example for a simple fullon bass melody.

if you understand this :

Kick, bass bass bass, kick, bass bass bass.
If you understand that.
Very good luck with all, and just keep it up

greets Wyatt.

Wyatt:

Like my girlfriend said, "that Wyatt guy seems to be very kind", and I have to agree on that

I've done adjustments in the song now. It sounds more full and warm now I think. The EQing didn't give me much, I suppose it's because I took the kick from an already made wav file so there wasn't much space for me to change it without it sounding crappy as hell. But I might be wrong though.

Well I learned a lot from this and things can only get better.

If you're really bored you can give it a listen at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/hongobongomusic.htm

Peace!!

Thanks for the nice words
you are not that bad either
Well, the new song.
Please, turn the BPM little up.
The kick is a little "muffed" maybe. In the intro is very "lonely"
The kick needs a fade up.
Bass, cant say much there
4:07 - sorry, I still dont like it
but else, synths is fine as I said for some time ago.

Very good luck to you in the future!!
