I was wondering if there is anybody out here who uses Linux instead of the usual Windows?
Advantages? Disadvantages?
I was also wondering if Skazi's name is supposed to be from the Linux term Scsi which is pronounced Skazi. |

Mental: It is definetly not more user friendly. It is about as easy as flying a plane. |

thats exactly what I'm asking. It seems like you can control so much more with Linux, if you can just figure it out. |

I have Windows XP
&
SuSe Linux 8
I gotta say that they both feel quite stable. Once you get used to Suse it's faster to use than XP. I mainly use SuSe for surfing the net and Windows for gaming. I haven't tried to create music on SuSe platform, but I'm going to install some programs in the near future and I will let you know..

hmmm ...
I'm using Linux for a very long time.
Linux is a very stable and user friendly openration system (if your hardware is supported by it).
But, if we're talking about serious music creation - don't use Linux (yet). |

guys.
linux does support some pro cards:
some MOTU cards, all M-Audio Delta series,
RME Hammerfall and some more.
besides allthe consumer level cards - sounblasters etc. even aureal vortex (check www.alsa-project.org)
about games.. there was a company named
"loki games" which ported many games to linux.
but new games for linux are made only by ID software (3d shooters mostly) seek the web for the games ported to linux and you'll find many.
about music making: if u use hardware sound sources, and fx boxes, and u use the pc as HD recording studio - u can work with linux - search "ardour".
softsynths names to google:
rs-101, juno-6, freebirth.
about "easy-to-use" it's relative.
for newbies ... it is possible to begin and run linux + apps with GUI within 5 minutes after the installation, but to understand how and when to tweak, what to uninstall and what to install from source ... it takes time to get to it.
