shouldn't this be possible just with midi?...
I haven't done that (syncing two machines) but I don't see why you couldn't do that. Just make other cubase master and other slave (assuming you hade both cubase and reason running in both machines... - or did you mean pc has cubase and mac has reason?)

umm... the question was how FaceHead can sync the programs/machines so that they have same bpm. Since when audio signals can transfer BPM and timing information?
FaceHead said nothing about transferring audio for one machine to another. He's probably using mixer to mix the outputs of two machines.
I thought the setup was like this:
machine1 (slave) -- audio --> mixer
^
bpm
^
machine2 (master) -- audio --> mixer |

Two or more machines can be integrated into one system using VST System Link. You need to connect the digital inputs and outputs of the two machines together before you set it up. System Link is specific to Cubase SX and VST 5.2b1 so if you want to use the two machines with Reason you'll have to use Rewire to get it running inside SX.
I'm sorry but I can't help more specifically than this as my main PC has one of the few soundcards that is incompatible with System Link so I've never managed to get it working.

Colin, yeah System Link would do the trick, however, if the guy just wants to get midi sync and do mixing with the mixer - shouldn't this be possible without System Link? I'm not in a place I can fiddle with cubase so I can't check this out...

Since ages. MIDI was (and still is used) for transferring samples between Samplers/PC's.
Doh.

so how do I literally hook up the two computers? do I connect via firewire or do I connect the soundcards via midi like midi out from the host to midi in on slave? or am i completely off here im technically capable but I have trouble figuring things out on my ownwithout visuals or a step by step could you guys just give me some of the basics here or steps such as hook this wire to this and go to this menu and look for this. I can troubleshoot the rest.
thanks for all the help
