personally i ve given up caring about the line up... meaning i dont seek the line up with all the "best" acts etc,, in order to go to a party.
what i care about these days is a party that has flow in it, meaning that it starts in one place and takes you to another through out the night then drops into another tone in the day time. i just cant take line ups which have live act upon live act upon live act... this feels like a rock festival... everyone looking at the "stars" on stage and not really seeking the trance element because it just isnt there anymore. you start to get into it and suddenly its the end of one act.... the trance is broken.. you launch into another act, completely different... it takes a while to addapt... you do and ... its the end of the act...
the parties i m really enjoying these days are parties where a lot of thought has been put into the continuity of the night, the flow, the psychedelic side of things.... and where djs actually put their ego second to the people in the party. this means not necessarily playing all their killer tracks whether its the right time for them or not.
i like live acts but i believe that you have to be brought to it by a dj.
basically my ideal night is:
intro dj set - sounds that are accessible to people as they arrive in a party.(22 to 1 am)
then another dj set going deeper into the night (1 til 3 am)
then a live act of about an hour (4 til 5)full crazy psychedelic
followed by another dj set (5 til 8)
live act (8 til 9)
final dj set (9 til 12am) stuff that brings you back.

who the artists are doenst really matter as long as they maintain the flow. the live acts should be placed by the person in charge of line up in a place where their sound will fit in. the djs should addapt to the people.

your jokes makes me reminding a nice story...

a friend of mine has something like that at home:
http://incense-china.com/images/not_for_sale/incense_stick.jpg

but at the end of the ash-rill is a little buddha-statue.

a friend of him visited him in his flat (he had no idea about such things like joss sticks) and asked him, what this wooden rill with buddha is, and what he wants to do with such a thing. ( there was no ash and no joss stick put in it)

my friend answered:
this is for taking coke-lines. you put the coke into the rill and you start with sniffing on the right side, going on to the left where buddha is. when you reach buddha and inhaled all the stuff, you get enlightend.
