Ive been hearing a lot about this issue lately where people take line outs from the main mixer in the party and record the stuff the artist is playing in the party and put it up on the net. I feel its a shame. Im sure it must be happening everywhere but lately ive herad its happening a lot from Brazil. No offence to you guys from Brazil but if its true i think its not fair on the artist at all. The guys put in a lot of effort and time on it for someone to just wack it like that even before its released.

The only time I have heard about that sort of thing from Brazil it was outright theft from a laptop ..
It would be so easy to take a split of the signal anywhere along the signal path post mixer that it should be a promoters responsibility to ensure it doesn't happen ..
With most of the stuff up on the net they give the details of the gig .. artists could protect themselves by having a clause in the performance agreement ensuring a promoter provides a untampered signal path.. although I can't imagine any easy legal action it would be damaging to a promoters reputation if s/he cannot meet the terms of his/her agreement.. |

well, i've downloaded two live sets from the net myself and i have to admit that i think it is great that some sets are available it may be pure egoism but i've never had the pleasure to see hallucinogen live, like this at least i have a clue how great they sound.
i understand that maybe the artits feel cheated. on the other hand i think the sets make a lot of people happy. and unless normall mp3s i think the artists won't lose money because of the live sets. i can't imagine anybody not going to see an artist just because he downloaded his set. i mean a party is a party, can't compare that to listening the music at home.

Tatsu- Thumbs Up...
This is an example of The Best Promotion an artist can dream of. U ppl keep orgetting that the thrill itself (especially in live acts) is to see pepople dancing and freaking out LIVE, not making money of it. again, the quality will never be the same and no one wo'nt buy the album because he has it live. thats crap. a mastered version is way better then mixer hookup.
Btw- just for yr information, some groups encourge ppl. to record live sets.

Traveller - I have seen a lot come from there and have often wondered whether the artists are happy with the situation..
I agree that WITH THE ARTISTS CONSENT it is a good thing .. but I think why Spy raised the thread was his concernes with the free for all that goes on with MP3's happening to live sets without the artist being aware it is happening..
As artists rely more and more on the live sets for income due to decreased record sales it would be best if all involved agree or it will result in a yet another loss for the artist .. If it was my music involved, I'd be feeling like I'd been kicked in the nuts if my records weren't selling, the live set is refined and yet another way comes along taking my music (Live & Recorded) without directly supporting me as an artist..
I agree with Tatsu that it isn't going to stop people going but the best way that we can directly support the scene is by paying the bucks to get through the door..
To be there for it.. and if a consenting artist is generous enough to make them available go for it..

I just thought of something, if the artist gave his conscent then it's not a question, because he gave it and then it's ok.
but if he did'nt approved, than its no question either- NO! just because he said so is enough....

my solution for the recording problem is -
before u start playing just check the d,j boot to see no m.d is conected this why or another to the mixer.
so that's how u can be sure while u playing.
no harm feelings -but just a parcosion.

I never saw a live file recorded from a act on Brazil... What artist was recorded? Can you add more info, please... Thanks.
