Hello!
Right, i want to attenuate my track for a mix CD... however, at the moment everything sounds good for the mixdown, the kick sits right and there is no clipping etc. and no distortion...
however, if i apply an L3 to the master out (in cubase) i immediately get distortion on the kick with both the snare and crashes... is this just a flaw in my mix (which sounds really good without the limiter imo) or should i export to wavelab and limit from there...
will it make a difference? is there a difference?
please share limiting tips

That shouldn't matter - it sounds like you're over-maximizing.
Look at what the graphs on the limiter are doing, if you're attenuating more than a few dB, especially in the beginning of a track, you're boosting the original signal too much.
Go through all the presets to get an idea of what the different settings do.... if your track is already mixed relatively "hot" then it may not need much maximizing.

When I use a multiband limiter on my tracks, I try to ensure that the kick and bass don't trigger the limiter. Those should be solid in the mix and should stay stable. Only peaks like crashes and similar things that stick out a bit get controlled. I try to stay within 3-5 dB limiting on the peaks only.

i think ultramaximaizer setting is
tresh 3-4.5 i hate too much limiting it sounds bad and its stupid gain race.. im out of it.. try to get just quality not volume.. but still limit abit..
and i woud try to apply the limiting not from the begining and not to the end so ur intro and outro wont be clipping (u wont see red but its sounds distorted)

hmm... i like my mids and highs to sound crisp and at the moment the mix sounds very crisp as I like it
however, even when i don't change any settings on the L3 i get abit of distortion if the master is set on 0db with the Limiter as an insert...
The kick and bass are compressed enough and don't clip at all, it is only when the high and mid one-shots are layered on top (compressed as well) that I get bass distortion...
Is there any way of Routing a limiter to just limit the highband above lets say 600 Hz??
any help would be great
