limiters on single tracks is ok I think. Some signals can have big peaks because of some modulations and while compressors can have possibly an unwanted effect limiters may solve such issue and acting like unnoticable.
Also I never use limiter on master.

why does fl studio automatically put a limiter on then? |

right, and so you get more in the mix. Also use eq (on each channel) to balance of spectrum,so maybe you can let some channels on your old volume.

Using a limiter on your master channel is pretty good technique just to know what it's gonna sound like once it's mastered, you'll get a better level then when you work without. of course you remove the limiter when your done with the track and bounce it for mastering.

many people are afraid of limiters because these tools can pretty much change the sound. sometimes harmfully. with limiter on master bus, equalization and dynamics of individual tracks behave other way. these changes to the sound can't be fixed while further editing or mastering.
but limiter is still just an effect processor. personally i don't recommend using it until you absolutely know what you are doing.
on the other hand, how one understands what to do with a limiter without using it?

I have the habit of using limiters on allmost every track in my project, except the master track of course. Possibly because I'm lazy sometimes...I guess fixing the volumes and taking care about not to clip anything is a far better practice.... |

@makus: I think a basic understanding of how a limiter works is something everyone should/can understand pretty easily (even without using one). Using it properly is another thing, but avoiding over limiting and/or hitting the limiter too often is something everyone should avoid.

Only on single tracks needed - to cut peaks.
And definitely it changes the whole picture on master channel, so think well if you should use it like that.
