try higher pitch notes.... I am serious!
The Delay Lama is not sample-based... it isnt a man or womans voice... it just sounds like it....
I think it is just a funny 'formant' filter applied to a basic waveform e.g. saw wave.
Actually I didnt know what formant _really_ meant until 30 seconds ago... I randomly found
http://www.sfu.ca/sonic-studio/handbook/Formant.html
it seems the vowel sounds are produced by particular patterns of resonant peaks in an EQ/filter.....
In fact the page I linked to kicks ass! It has a table which tells you exactly what frequencies you wanna put the peaks at to get a mans vowel sound or womans vowel sound! so you are sorted if you have a decent eq!! I'm gonna give it a go right now.
There is the 'crown' preset on the Kontakt VSTi's filters, and also 'vowel' presets. These show nice graphs of what is happening.... of course you might want to automate the frequency of the peaks, but you can do that in e.g. Kontakt.
