dont get into dj stuff, and put your maximum effort, love & dedication as long as your love making tunes and your activities & responsibilities lets you do that and use your time creatively as long as your appetite and imagination lets you.

i think when you achieve balance with good aspect both in mixing and music production, you earn the respect of people and your work is appreciated by others, even if they like the style or not

Also not getting into too much stereotypes or "generic" styles of composing, mixing and arrangement is something that distinguish your personal aspect, but this is something really hard to achieve without the hard work, patience, passion and obsession ..

its your path, keep on it as long as you love it

get ableton live ( http://www.ableton.com/live )
read the tutorials inside
watch tom cosm video's about live act ( youtube.com/watch?v=tNM-3QFq9fA )
go back to your tracks and export groups (3-6 is usualy great enough for 1 person)
map them in ableton into scenes and use the folow actions to trigger your tracks as they are
from here its little bit experiment with effects usualy or addon loops etc , and ANYTHING will be possible!!!

or

learn how to play an instrument (keyboard?) and play it along with the music when exporting the track with one lead off and you do this one totaly live playing.. not too bad either

personly i come to piece with dj my own stuff and adding effects from the little kaossilator... until i sort out my own ableton set / new laptop huh..          www.sattelbattle.com

i'm really with Elad there.
i think you should imagine your live set with your own imagination. it is NOT that hard. think of what you actually can do on the scene. think of what you can't. if you already have 15-18 tracks ready for playing live, i guess it won't be very hard for you to know what you can do on the scene.

man, really, no offense, but why asking this at all? You've got your music. Prepare the track list in winamp. Sit in front of it and IMAGINE how can you perform it live. This is YOUR live, not mine or Elad's.

"Minimum effort" depends on how willing you are to lie about what you're doing on stage, and whether or not you have a conscience that lets you deceive the people on the dancefloor and the people booking you to play 'live'. It's a choice you make - long-term integrity and respect vs. short-term cheap thrills and getting the shit ripped out of you if anyone finds out.

My advice - don't let it be you.

I agree with you Colin. Its a shame DJs get it so easy. Doesn't seem very just.

Ive seen countless "big names" play a single preprepared wave file as their "Live" set... That would be the minimum You could do... But You will get tired of it in no time...           www.iono-music.com
