here's a question:
let's say (for example) i want to release a track. this track contains a vocal sample from star wars movie. do i have to ask for licence??
or when i take a sample out of a speech do i have to ask the guy who wrote it?
thanx, may love and light embrace u           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

if the sampled material is in such a way that it is totally obvious where it comes from, you have to at least consider asking.
in most cases nothing will happen as our little scene doesn´t have the attention of the industry.
and you are relatively safe using sampled material
but if someone finds out that you didn´t ask for permission ay ay ay.           Mastering available here:

so what can happen? will they ask you for money or something?

is there any place online where we can find a manual on that?

hey
by what i know from my contacts with ACUM
(our local artists copyright organization) - when you want them to license your disc for sale, the first question they ask: "Do you have any text in your music" - if its trance music and you got those usual "look to the future" quotes, they dont care
but if there're texts and sing lines inside, they want you to show them a license from the artist who performed the singing..

they dont listen to all your music usually.. to say the truth i doubt they listen to trance music at all..... they will accept you, but anyways, you are the one who take all the responsibility of using foreign matherial in your own albums
you may even license your music with any goverment organization, but if afterwards appears that you took some meaningful part of somebody's else work (licensed to him) - he can sue you if he can prove its his

and yeah, as somebody said - its possible to use some short piece of foreign matherial in your creations, but you should check whats the limitation.. i think its about 4 tacts

if the material gets changed (...delay, drums over it, whatever) there isn t any problem.

bom bom           experiment !
make it your motto day and night.
experiment,
and it will lead you to the light.
the apple on the top of the tree
is never too high to achieve,
so take an example from eve...
experiment !

medirium - not always
if its a copyrighted text (i mean not just a phrase or a few words.. i mean lyrics)
you cant use it even if you change it with getting drums/fx whatever on it
