If we take Liams words as law, then basses can't be done in Reason. For the REX to work, you need Liam's sample library, which (I'm guessing) could reach the moon if put on CDs, and you could only write 50% of the leads you want... That renders Reason insufficient if anything.

I think maybe he likes the way you can manipulate the rex files with Reason. Dr Rex has filters, filters envelopes and mod envelopes, but there probably aren't too many soft synths that you can modify each rex slice, very easily, in terms of pitch, panning, etc. I guess another thing is that it is easy to work with.
Having said that of course i'm just starting to do the same sorta thing with NI Battery, which is much more flexible in some ways. It does have the fx, but at least they can be routed in easily enough in Logic/Cubase.
Still there is something I find about Reason that makes it possible for me to get ideas, usually a starting point for a tune, easily and quickly. The sounds and the fx may not be the best, but often I would sample another soft synth (impOscar/z3ta+/etc) and put it in NN-XT to mess with. Maybe that was what he was getting at?
