Give it definitly a try, I did started with such things after I was listening too music in bed with my eyes closed, I was able to listen for much more details, no visual input will strengthen your other senses.

stop "looking" at the numbers, it's makes you deaf. it's official now:

My synths sound better as well when I don't look at the screen.

some guys are not influenced by this visual feedback ect...
me what i noticed is when i use my mouse and look at the screen i concentrate more on listening what i tweak with the mouse and less to the full picture , this don't give me the best result.

also when i concentrate on 2 sense like seeing and hearing, it dont work as good as concentrating on just one

some producers rely totally and just on ears...i wishi was still like that but as soon as you learn some theory it influence us

for example i know a producer that was still using 16 bit project .. plugins or channel in the red he dont care.. stuff like that.. lol ,his ears are not influenced by any other feedback,as long as it sound good it s good.. that kind of "ignorance " lead him to do crazy thing that work.. i never seen eq curves like this before for example, his mixing is against everyhtin you can read on the net..probably cause he is never on the net ..

especially if someone talks about kick -10dB (peak) and other about -10dB kick with a lot of limiting, etc etc... writing numbers on forum is totally pointless

in this case, old skool hw (without display or with minimal 1 line text ones) is winner because there is more touching and sensitive work than looking on thousands analyzers in daw.
in other topic someone wrote that external midi keyboard is useless - i can't agree with this. in my 'maximal minimal home studio' my keyboard is the most creative tool

so as long as your mix sounds good, even with excessives peaks, we can adjust with master fader for final bounce in order to get the - dB asked by mastering studio ?

no worries, great article, ey? we should use our ears and not our eyes when making music! when i'm mastering my eyes are closed and i'm twiddling knobs until it sounds good. that's it really!

the more you rely on number the longer you gonna get bad mixes. forget numbers, close your eyes if you cant ignore them, and just listen. if you snare is thin, add there 15 db of 120 hz! dont think "120 is for my bass, so i cant use it for anything besides that". if it sounds good - its good.

Very good advice. One more thing, if it really gets too close to 0 you can lower the overall volume on the master fader, it will not make any difference as far as your mix is concerned!

hmm sounds good its good but for the people that think its good when it aint good being true then it aint good,my ears tell otherwise. but genrally speakin yeh fuk the numbers as it all changes when other sounds are introduced anyways, hard to say

I was watching a video of tom cosm mixing and i noticed that all track leves were at 0db, i think that instead of mixing using the volume faders he just drops a compressor on each track and work level from there.

anyone else here use this technic?

if that's the case then it sounds like a recipe for hideous distortion. there's absolutely no need whatsoever to be pushing up against the digital maximum when working in 24 bit or higher. you're just gonna be needlessly squashing everything for a horrible flat sound. imho of course, haven't seen the video mentioned or listened to the guy's music.
