Then you understand what I meant.
Take Dyode's patch, for example. From his description I have an idea to take two OSC's with the same shape at the same pitch, synced if I can. I set my mod env to repeat, and crank the attack and decay all the way down. I throw on a 24dB filter, and crank it down to 50Hz.
At this point I can test various mods, cranking up the mod env amount each time to see if there is a sweet spot.
The point of all of this is that even if I can't get an exact Osc setting, or mod env setting, or filter setting, or effects, etc etc, I can still approximate each, thinking of it in a modular sense: OSCs then envelopes then filters then effects.
Who knows what I could find? I've found some interesting sounds trying to duplicate Subtractor patches on my Ion, but I'm always looking to learn more.
And if I could just get Reaktor to work with my soundcard, I'd be trying to duplicate every patch I could come across.
