ozric tentacles show tonight was awsome , but it wasnt saying "live" on the flyer , big fuckn deal.. who care???
if you make music with INSTRUMENTS then its pritty obvious what your show is no?
cosmosis show back in the day was awsome too , i danced like crazy and that what counts. what brought me there wasnt the "live" on the flyer but the "cosmosis" (knowing it will be the guy who made the music passing on his vibe along with his own music to the party)
anywayz imo ableton is not any more live then cds on pioneer top gear where you can do anything almost and also no pre-arrange set you can change tracks by mood and loop parts if you want to.. as well add some sounds from other source like synth but lets face it as long you are not top keyboard player it aint much more live even that there is synth .. all you can do is cutoff sweep and lfo the pitch or something with one finger chord lol or some arpegio (wow arpegio live is amazing more then cd arpegio)
but another thing - other side of same coin , what is dj set ????
the real diffrence from dj to artist is if you play your original music not what media it is from... or you cant see the small diffrence if i now gonna dj OOOD music all night or you do it ?? what about if i play just OOOD music and add woosh fx with synth ? is that OOOD live lol ?
no its not, since it must be FIRST thing you , then your music and the jam along.
anywayz , for the crowd its either live either dj set. no more variety. they not gonna understand your milion diffrent names for evry other small change on the stage (comeon: dj ,live ,p.a , producer set, decks&fx...) neither they care at all more then if its realy you.
but hey we all here got it allready , now all you need is to get to the 100000 peaple that are the crowd , good luck change the world , from here it looks like you praech to the choir saying that on producers forumwww.sattelbattle.com http://yoavweinberg.weebly.com/

Tomorrow afternoon I will be playing LIVE on my own at an outdoor festival in South Africa, using only CDJs and playing only my own music. I will be making whooshing noises with my mouth (sadly no microphone so people won't be able to hear it) - this is why I will be able to call it a live set.
The words we use to describe things are the only way people will be able to know what is going on. If the words we use don't actually describe what is happening, what value are they? As I've said before, if the crowd really doesn't care then I challenge press-play liveacts to insist on an honest and accurate description of what they do ("Pure playback! Totally NOT LIVE!") to be included on flyers.

Wouldn't that be a plain 'P.A.' though, Bill? I'd have thought the use of the word 'Live' would mean that the Public Appearance included live music on stage?
Well I had always interpreted the common phrase "Live P.A" as part marketing and part that the artist is there actually (a)live in person - as in "live personal appearance" by such and such, or as in "David Letterman Live" etc...
But come to think of it, I guess that there is a redundancy in the term.
Great to see you on Saturday in South Africa btw
And my apologies for not saying my goodbyes, my ride to Cape Town was leaving and I had to split during your set. I left while you were playing that great OOOD/Ott morning track )
Cheers,
Bill

thanks again for distracting that spangled nutter and keeping him away from my guitar while my back was turned...

what do you want from keyboards? there are tons of tracks which even doesnt have something like chord progressions beyound percussions, drums. playing a keyboard wouldnt make any sense there. so all this music couldnt be played live by your defenition as long as someone doesnt takes his real drums on stage. man...
live isnt a way you hit your keyboard - its a way you define a setup where you are able to interact with the sound played on stage. concepts of rock/conventional music for "live" just doesnt make a reference there anymore.
all im saying if its not like "rock band" setup then i dont care much if its cds or laptop. in most cases with cds the artist work more then in the fake live , or sound better then real looping since that is pritty boring after few minutes.
i guess for no melody style more reasonable to add drum machine then synth ok.
i didnt said melody but chord progression, since i believe a 4 bar loop with a few tones is just not worth taking a keyboard on stage. even because many producers doesnt play an instrument.
perfect example , xone , even better then my pioneer example.
most of the peaple bullshit here about "fake" lives cant make something that good with 100 hours programing at home ... and sure not "live" on stage.
if u think playing ableton live loops is more live then this then ... why? since its midi controler linked to same options available in dj consule?? lol on you.. u just wanna see laptop admit it allready.
and if its his origianal music i would proudly present it as live electronic show , like someone said b4 "interaction with the music in a way that if he walked away its sounds boring and diffrent"
if thats not it then its simply 2 realities of diffrent minded peaple
as for "rock band" setup i still think its offering more then laptop or cd.. the feeling and vibe sure is diffrent and usualy better , as well more easy on the players to do 1 instruent then to be the "hole band" like maybe some peaple think is possible but its not.
well exept this DALI chick now this is emberace to human race to think anyone fall for this
