i would like to start this topic in order to have a laugh instead of gnorrling about the people who do fake live acts, like pushing only play on the computer and then just dances around, so if anybody has some special video or experience with these fake live acts lets share it here and have a laugh....

i love when people do this, it really makes me smile. like omg if only these 10 000 ppl knew that this guy is a faker, loool
i think it should be changed from "live act" to "dance performance"           [[[G|L|I|T|C|H]]]

but cosmosis is still one of my fav. acts. imho you should respect if the producer want to make more party than tweaking cutoff filters...           http://soundcloud.com/seamoon

That set's quite old; Billy takes his guitar out on stage usually these days (at least whenever I've seen him) and shows much more how good a musician he actually is.

I remember when I was pretty young and was at a skazi party in Cape Town which they were promoting their 2nd album. Now give credit where crit is due, Animal was a very good album for its time and I thought they distinguished themselves with a distinctive sound which then was theirs and you could here it anywhere and you knew it was them. From there is in my opinion where they went downhill and killed themselves with the more underground scene.

Anyays. So I managed to get a nice little spot behind the,m for their entire gig. It was indoors and I found me a little dark corner out the way as was making some hash chillums for me and a mate in peace. Anyhow there they were, suspended fairly high, big crowd (+2000 maybe) and supposedly jamming on their Virus and the other on the guitars.

Well Cubase it was for them. Even think it was the old school version 5 or something before SX was launched and they just had what must have been studio mastered wave files X1 per track just running along a time line. Guitar jammed in Mixer channel with fader down i.e. no signal as I kept watching him pretending to tweak the mixer eq on the channel but then was like hey ur faders not up bro? HMMMM..

The Virus was going though butonly jamming one fingered EFX hits on every 32nd or 64th beat and what baffled me is that I didn’t see him change the patch once in the full hour I was there.

So all in all I must admit I was very disappointed and gotspotted as soon as the chillum went a light and got asked to leave the back of the stage area.

I just saw i think the last fullmoon festival dvd and everybody i think is just jumping and dancing, astral projection being the worst, just staring at the lap top. Honestly ive never seen a video where the artist is actually doing something than dance or stare at the lap top

i dont know what funny see someone have fun

with eskimo it looks too artificial and pre-syncronized lol but come on whats wrong with dance and have fun ?

just forget the live acts of the 80's and realize today reality is something diffrent

i still not think its fair to lie about it but hey if cosm's live is live then anyone can line up his tracks in abelton and have some midi toy with cutoff and glitches on it.. yay           www.sattelbattle.com

fun tread..but its more complicated to search for real live performers in the psy scene its funny when you see one guy standing up there and running a back up cd oder one long wave and even more funny if there are 2 guys standing up there an pose and act like they doing something live if not even the channel from the nords and virus ( they even special order it) is up.

It's a pitty you get bashed these days for making complex lines that just ca't be brought live. Live acts still seem to be measured by rock terms: what is he PLAYING live... Is he really playing that line or is the arpeggio running? etc.

I'd still prefer a good sounding p.a. live act where the producer is tweaking the sound/eq/channels over a real live act with 27 synths playing less earcandy synthlines 'but it was live'.

What does it make live in fact? Do you have to have someone hitting a big drum for the kick? Does a plane has to pass by during a break? Does everything has to be midi controlled with the chance of crashing? And if so: is it ok you pause 45secs (at best) between every track that runs your cpu till 80%?

edit: to make it more specific: If you make a lead using a synth/vsti. then you bounce it, work on it, stretch it, reverse, chop, bounce again, eq and place your little chops in rythm: plz tell me how this exact sequence you fooled around with for hours in your studio can be brought live with the same effect.           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

I dunno, I'd be okay with someone just triggering live clips in time with a midi controller. kick, bass etc.

'it's not live if you can't fuck up'

but yeah it's tough with psy no doubt. i don't mind people calling themselves a live act if they're playing their own music, but at the same time i have no problem making fun of people who fake moving knobs and acting like they're doing something when they're not. that's fair game for for all my heckling for sure. and if you're going to bring a synth out at least play some pads or have one sound coming out of it you can tweak. take a chance damnit! make something new for the moment and stop being afraid of everything not being perfect.

we saw this band play one time with a girl singer who was pretty good but about halfway through we caught her lowering the mic and stop singing yet the vocals were still coming through. my friend and i looked at each other and were all "AWWW SHIT NO WAY!!" and started laughing. i felt kinda bad though because there wasn't too many people there and she heard us and seemed pretty embarrassed.

i don't really heckle people though, unless of course they're friends of mine.

Hehe, that brings up old memories.
Years ago I played live on a boat tour("BoatVibe"). That time I was fully into Dirty Breakbeatz. I remember that that time desktop computers were pretty powerless and I used Cubase 1.01 to trigger my Rack with full of Stuff. I preprogrammed Phrases and set the loops markers with the mouse while performing and palying the AN1x these days. Pretty funny First we had setup all te stuff outside on teh deck of that boat and after we were ready it began to rain and we had to move inside

+1

with this kind of music, its a simple fact. I mean if you compare Live acts to DJs is there really that big of a differece? Even your really hard working DJs are still dancing around after they've mixed the track in, and unless they're also a producer, its SOMEONE ELSES MUSIC. there are some funny DJ vids as well, so why not bring them into the fold

re Live acts though, c'mon seeing the synchronized movements that only a producer who know the track inside and out has to be worth something ;-)
