thx dudes...
@zil
i just swapped 16bit with 32, for sure 32 bit is more... as far as i know mixing down audio from cubase in 32 floating makes not so much sence because a lot of plugins doesnt generate high-resolution formats....
myth?

Well that isn't entirely true (about the plugins) but if you export the sound and everything is below 0dBFS, it is pointless because you don't have any extra resolution. (32bit float is 24 bits of resolution + 8 bits of exponant).

well., it does make sense cause you are mixing all those 16 (and maybe 24) bits channels together.,

you can't put all 16 bits channels inside the final 16 bits without reducing something., it just doesnt fit.,

so if you use 16 bits material it makes perfect sense to mix them at 32 bits coz 32 bits can contain 65535 16bit samples in full quality without cliping

but in the end you want to make a cd and so it needs to be 16 bits again, right?
well, yeah, but a mastering studio will be able to get the most out of that 24 or 32 bits track you rendered in cubase.,

so, if you want the best quality, you need to make the final as close to the mixing engine as possible,
cubase is 32 bits float, so if it has an option to render to 32 bits float then use it for your final.,

it doesnt mean that if you render to 16 bits it will sound like shit
it's just that if you want the very best qualiy, etc

personally, i switched over to 24 bits for all audio files .,
just to make everything easier.,
now i dont care about bits anymore.,
my audio tracks are 24 bits, which is already more than enough per track, and when i mix it all down to 24 bits it's still much better than 16 bits so can be mastered nicely.,
also, more bits in the end result will give you more headroom so even when you are way below 0db there is still at least 16 bits worth of music in there

hope that makes sense

Damn you ppl, i hardly understand you
Perhaps it's the yesterday's alcohol.
Will try to read again later today.
Interesting topic.
BTW, did you know that even if you record with 24 bit depth you might actually end up using much less bits if you insert a weak signal? You always have to make sure that the signal is as close as possible to the 0~+4 dB level. When you input a weak signal your bit depth can fall to 16 bit or even less.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

if you record at 24 bits and the signal is above -50db or so you will already have 16 bits in use.,

so the signal would have to be very weak before you start losing any real quality.,

mind you., if you work in 16 bits then every bit counts.
