I have been hanging around on this forum for awhile and have learned so much from you guys, thanks so much. Thanks for the comments on my songs.People ere seem to know eachother well but i dont really know anyone and you dont know me and its cool.
This is something that i have been thinking about for awhile.I am a religious Hasidic jew and you might not know what that is.The Israelis on the forum will know but i dont know about the rest.In my religion drugs are forbidden straight up.I have tried pot but thats it.Making non-jewish style music is also looked down upon a little but it is done(think Matisyahu).I only got into psytrance 3 years ago and was a musician before so decided to produce and i think im doing okay.I dont know much about the scene, the religion part of the scene but from what i do know it seems to be not in line with Judaism.I think psytrance is beautiful and i think a person can produce it without Psychedelics or being part of the scene.Instead of me putting in samples about drugs i put in samples of Kabbalah or Mysticism.I dont know how this will affect my music being not under the influence of any psychedelics but Judaism is also a very spiritual religion with lots of mysticism involved.I dont know if i will ever play a party in some forest in some random country because i dont know if it will work with me being a religious jew. Many Israelis are huge in pystrance but they are not religious.I want to make music and dance and make people happy.
My questions are basically..
1.Is there a religious part of the scene?
How does it affect production?
I put this here in Production because this is where i post the most.
Peace and Love and thanks again for all your help.

I do not quite understand how you are thinking.
That you cannot take part of the psy trance scene because you are religious?. Well thats all up too you, the choice is ures.
Its not like everyone who creates psy trance are constantly on acid, but it can be a help to alter the perspectives and such which can be an advantage.
The scene is not very separated, people are accepted as a humanbeing and not as a separated entity in a world with a wide stretched individualism.
As long as you dont preach about your religion in your music, i could not see any reason why anyone would raise their eyebrow.
Why make separations?, we all are humans what is the difference from being black, brown, yellow, jew´s, christians, hindus, a, s, o?. |

I wouldn't want to hear any pro religious samples in a party. About any religion. People are killing them selves left right and center in the name of their God.

+1 disco!
and for fucks sake, keep music what it is..
namely, a universal language rather than a very subjective and questionable bunch of beliefs called religion.
do please not instrumentalize one of the nicest arts humans brought up
(sorry for being a lil aggressive about that, but just listen to the news and see what is done in the name of (any) religion) http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/stereofeld-frequenzwechsel

Jews dont kill themselves btw.
My samples arent about judaism all the way.If you listen to them they can be for any person.
I agree with you....it just seemed that to make psy music you need to be on psy drugs or at least be part of the scene i ...i am neither of those so i was just wondering.
Peace nad Love

They kill people of other religion tho. Just like people have and will kill a jew just because s/he is a jew.

Its the actual reference to a God that puts me off...I've done this the other way around, both in techno and trance tunes....put in anti religious samples.

Although psychedelics have aided my in music and life generally, I will not say that you must have experienced psychedelic drugs to make psychedelic, although I firmly believe that I can't speak for any person in the world.
Peace out.

I dont care what god(s) you have or believe. Also I dont really care what samples you put into track until they sound cool and not resemble children cry or dieing women or braking limbs etc. If you supply great music - you have all benefits. If your god helps you supplying great music - thanks God!

I think it's a great idea. I encourage you to explore this avenue!! Trance can be a very uplifting powerful music, & to me it would seem that it goes hand in hand with things like religious experiences. I'm actually surprised that I don't stumble across more religious inspired trance in the world, but then again I don't know much about the trance scene. Sorry I can't be of help in this area. |

A lot of songs have quotes about meditation, which is spiritual.
It's all what you want to do man, cuz you're the artist. If you're asking if we think things will go over well at a party if you're putting religious stuff in it, it's probably dependent on if it sounds cool like makus said.
I know in old Electric Universe stuff that I still listen to sometimes, on one of their albums, there's just tons of talk about 'returning to source' and all this zen philosophy. Some of it gets annoying because some of the songs are oversaturated with it.
I'd say use what sounds cool man. I don't know about jewish mysticism stuff, but like Shpongle has a song about a yeti which is kind of mysticism and it's fucking cool and funny - relating to shamanism and whatnot.
So if it sounds cool, and isn't preaching, then I think it's cool, unless you actually do want to start some religious psy movement haha how crazy would that be

I don't see anything wrong with putting in samples of religious shit, as long as it is not super preachy. What is your intention when putting in those samples though? Are you attempting to convert people? Express something interesting? Just because it sounds cool? I like samples where I have no clue what they're saying because its all super fucked up or in another language..then I can interpret it how I want ;P
Offtopic rant: it is hilarious to me that so many people 'give up drugs' but then still smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. Total fail. People should be giving up that shit way before anything else imo. Also, any religion that specifically outlaws any and all drugs is incredibly short sighted imo - throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Entheogens have played a very large role in the religious experiences and traditions of the world and have been and will continue to be catalysts for incredibly powerful spiritual experiences. Denying them is basically throwing out one of the most powerful tools in your toolbox.
