I was at a party this Friday afternoon, no 2 many people came. The DJ played some mixed set of progg. and full on. I've notice that everytime he played fuulon music there was a big Karahana, and the amonut of the people didn't bother me at all.
So i came to this conclution: If u have a considerable amount of ravers at the party, the DJ should play what ever he want's to play. even if 50% of the ravers will dance it will still b one hell of a party. when u lack the crowd, the DJ must get everyone pumping without giving anyone a break. IMHO fullon vibes have the more chance of getting everyone into Karahana C'ss of it's energy and high BPM.

I think you're absolutely wrong. I think it is very subjective and it also depends on many, many factors. Is the DJ a Prog type? does he have any full-on in his case worth mixing? is the crowd a full-on crowd? is the party organized by people who prefer techno-trance (and consequently invite the corresponding crowd)?
lots of factors here. and i think that a good set is defined by the music, yes, but also by the crowd's reaction to it.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. We See Things As We Are" -Ancient Chinese Proverb

It all depends where you are.

I have seen more often the case where a DJ keeps a dancefloor from having much energy by playing too full-on too early in the party. People don't want to jump on to a dancefloor first thing to 150bpm madness. Or at the end of the party where the DJ is playing super-hard, maybe 10% of the people are on the dancefloor, and the rest are sitting around too tired to dance to 150+bpm.

I would rather see 100 people lightly grooving on the dancefloor to 135bpm prog/tek than 10 people jumping around to 150bpm full on.

I don't mind hearing some full-on at a party, but please balance it out. The best dancefloors I have seen work up to it, then work down from it after the peak. It has its place, but its place isn't from start until the end of the party (otherwise people get sick of it).

I believe full on trance has only began to form itself as the ultimate trance expereince and it's goa routes are nothing to be ashamed of.
olli, I think a d.j should play full-on no matter what. I'd rather see 100 ppl jumping around to 142-146BPM, than 1000 lightly grooving at 135. if I wanted to I can go to a house party any time I want

simon: yes, I have to agree with you. the energy and intensity of a real full-on set is unbelivaible ..

But a good proggy-psychedelic set is very cool too, but for me it is not the same experience (more groovy , chilled ..)            3o~ kriz aka krize 3o~ ....Horrordelic Records.... http://www.horrordelic.com

It's all a matter of balance, as Krelm said. A good DJ imo, is one who understands the crowd. I'm not saying that a DJ should play what the crowd wants, but he should not forget that he's playing not only for himself.

What do you think? Should he play what he wants, regardless of the crowd and vibe? Should he stick to what the crowd wants?
I believe he should be sensitive enough to play his sound and his style but stick to the vibe of the party.
