ARTIST INTRODUCTION

LEMON SLIDE is a psychedelic trance duo from Helsinki, Finland. Their style could be described as a mixture of full-on psychedelic trance combined into funky, melodic and most of all, hilariously uplifting suomisaundi grooves.

The original trance-vestite drag queens behind this project name are Roope Karhunen (alias Robomate) and Leo Louhio (DJ Ukki / Öinen Lebahäiskä / Iloinen Leo). "True Nature" from Freakdance Records is their debut album release, but these two youngsters have been blowing up dancefloors around the planet for quite some time already.

In addition to their extensive amount of performances within Finland, they have also played abroad in countries such as Russia, Ukraine and Israel. Lemon Slide has also released freely downloadable mp3 material on various internet labels such as Antiscarp Records.

Their strong presence within the suomisaundi (Finnish psy-trance) genre has already gained them a cult following and a highly appreciated underground reputation. It's not too pompous to say that the debut album from Lemon Slide has been requested and awaited for years by nearly all friends of the Suomi-sounds.

ALBUM INTRODUCTION

"True Nature" is the peak for the 5th year anniversary celebration for Freakdance Records, and have to admit that it is our most impressive release so far - the album comes in a turbo-cool 6-panel digipak packed with tasty trancevestite eye candy!

The album kicks off with "Peachy Beach Bitchez", a highly potential summer hit track aimed for mainstream radio channels --- just kidding! - that has been co-produced with two Finnish psy-trance artists Vihtahousu and Okta. During the course of the album ther are visitations by many other highly talented artist guests as well, such as SportyShorty programming the drums on track 4, Joppe Louhio playing the guitars on track 2 and Joona Portaankorva hustling the trumpets on track 6.

The music on "True Nature" keeps on evolving and constantly changing as we progress forward. The duo combines those lovely ever-morphing sound textures of old-school Goa into disco- and video game-influenced full-steam psychedelic trance. You might even hear some breaks-stuff in between. And, there's a couple of bonus chill-out tracks in the end for those mellow moments.

You can pick up your own favorite tagline:

Spugedelick Forest Power-Disco from the original Trancevestites of Finland!

This is the type of gayness TOM-OV-VINLAND himself would approve!

75 minutes of fresh and exciting face-melting Funland-funkadelia for your cap-bustin' pleasure!

This shiat is hotter than any of the other mofo bullcrap you'd hear from ACID SOAKED FRACTAL GIRL ELF GNOME CATERPILLAR SPIRALDELIA MUSHROOM RECORDS!

Summer's never gone with Lemon Slide!

Here's a review from Psyreviews.net

http://www.psyreviews.net/index.php?...=602&Itemid=46

It takes precisely fourteen seconds to fall head over heels in love with this album. That’s how long the intro to opening track Peachy Beach Bitchez takes to open up before dropping into this wonderful psychedelic groove that’s made up of roughly equal parts of Prince, Roxy Music, Talking Heads and Chaka Demus & Pliers.

Let’s take a step back. Lemon Slide are Finnish. Of course. I’ve been aware of some of their mp3 releases on Antiscarp and appearances here and there, but only with the full album’s worth of space that True Nature affords them do they really come into their own.

Lemon Slide are masters at creating expansive, tight grooves. Or, to put it another way: you can’t not dance. Through Nature is an odyssey-like progression that thrashes you around the room in a hugely positive and friendly way. More balls-to-the-wall is the glorious Suomi/Reggae hybrid Time 2 Funktion, with scorched acidlines circling above rootsy vocals, and as such is possibly the only track to travel from Helsinki to Kingston by way of Anjuna in the space of seven and a half minutes.

Meanwhile Anti-Lines and Dear Me are more in keeping with the more “conventional” (I use the term loosely) Suomi vibe. Nudist is a perfectly-formed experiment in postmodern P-Funk, and Unfortunate Facts has a lazy prog quality about it that needs to be heard loud to be appreciated.

Bust A Cap In Ya S is sublime jazzy breaks, like a more involved and more psychedelic Flexitones. The progressions and changes here, not to mention the Miles Davis-like trumpets, suggest a deep musicality of the sort that would normally get lost in the confines of dance music. Unettomat is plain bonkers, but in a good way.

They take a stab at some chillout: Juha Meni Jo is missable, but the hybrid of Alan Watts, triphop and spacey dub of the hidden track at the end of the CD is a clear winner.

Last, but still significant, is the ode to Goa of Salarakas. This is dark, emotive, rolling stuff – it’s like every emotion you might get in one of Goa Gil’s 24-hour sets condensed into just a handful of blistering minutes. It is, without hesitation, wonderful.

True Nature is a highly varied album. It may be the case that this wide-ranging variation is working against them; your attention sometimes wanders off, as moments and ideas you were really enjoying a minute or so ago are cast away like yesterday’s jam.

The significance to be drawn from this (because that’s what I do, remember) is that in a climate where so much identikit shite is coming our way, something as blissfully good fun as this can still find you. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

Another review, from KPSU.FM (USA):

http://kpsu.org/node/24486

It has been a few years since the good people at Freakdance Records have given the world any new product. Their last release was in 2005 and I have been missing them ever since. Well, no more!

Freakdance has recently released the debut album by the fine Finnish duo Lemon Slide. Lemon Slide actually has a lot of releases out online. The great AntiScarp online mp3 database and Thixx N Dixx both feature other Lemon Slide releases, but Freakdance has finally stepped forward and released a real audio CD called 'True Nature' and it was worth the wait.

Lemon Slide write fun music. While it is deeply psychedelic, they do not seem concerned with bad trips or edges of reality. They are more concerned with getting that awesome ass of yours onto the dancefloor and watching it shake from side to side. It would be nice, of course, to have that dancefloor be in the middle of a forest, but I think I could settle with any decent sound system.

True Nature is nothing but upbeat and uptempo goodness. The hooks in each cut are extremely hookified and the "journey" which accompanies each song reminds me of a life I no longer live, and sometimes never lived. I am transported to memories of DMT drenched beaches of the Caribbean during the Regan Administration. Memories of bad cartoons, good LSD and no need to be anywhere important; because High School isn't as important as the other things that could be done. Memories of swanky disco's where they pitched the records up to +8 and then replaced the alcohol with mushroom tea.

If you are looking for a new album for those moments of upbeat joy and giddy sunrise smiling faces, this is the album for you.
If you are wanting to try a piece of the always talked about "silly Finnish music" but don't want a bad Weird Al electronica album, this is a good place to start. In fact, you can always count on Freakdance to release super high quality stuff.
If you know Lemon Slide, know Freakdance and/or know this genre fairly well, then pick this up. You won't be disappointed.

This shit rocks.
