back to the topic, you can t learn compression on the net, just play with compressors until you get better at compressing stuff ,you will never stop improving , we don t learn driving a car on the net, or playing tennis , it s a bit the same, it s practicing that really matter.
that could be a automatic answer to half the threads cause it s like that for everyhting, practice practice my friend |

1 Which instruments should i use the compressor on in trance ? (i mainly focus on having a compressor on the kick )
i never compress the kick
i do compress "crazy" leads that have huge peaks and downs to level it out abit
2.What happens to the mix when you are using compressors. How does it sound ?
it sounds more compressed, i guess only expirience can detect that and other issues like masking ,volume, eq etc.
3 Can i use extreme compression settings or should i compress extremly low
you can defiantly use extreme settings if it sounds better , thats your only criteria
4 Does compression affect the timing in music, can it make the music to sound more rythmic ?
hmm the rythm section can get really 'snappy' but it doesnt really affect timing.
some weird attack and release settings might do that tho.
Would be great if anyone could help me
hope i did

and also you wanna check out parallel compression that shit is da shizzle (aux compression)
p/s im talking mostly on DOWNWARD compression like C1 its abit different then URS compressors which use UPWARD compression with auto gain www.sattelbattle.com

compressors are the most bitchiest thing to learn imo, can fuck up dynamics or put that final touch your sound needs to sound more compact.

imo good way to learn compression is to use simple compressor, like ssl bus comp software emulation, waves and the glue , these comp can work on almost everyhting and are easy to set up. or if you got some money to spend hardware is imo way better to learn . you may not even understand something about compression it can make your source sound better with the nice color and you learn to use it that way,it will sound good almost all the time on almost all settings with some comps, you just have to find where it sound as it best depending the source. |

i read somewhere that a good way to practice with a compressor is compressing reversed tracks. they say it is easier to hear the envelope changes if you hear the envelope reversed ( adsr -> rsda). don't really know if its true but it seems cool to test |
