it´s is a dificult kuestion ,and i don´t know if there is a answer.My track´s are +-.. i have good drums works, nice bas..;some cool atmofere sounds N affect´s.But when it comes to leads...i go down the drain.My bests melodi are with automation´s....but , im not a musiccian , idont know anything abou music so....

learn some scales, try to play in tune with the bass. liste to stuff. try to do the same and them try to do better

sorry to say this... but if your not a musician don`t make music. wanna make music? sit your ass down and learn some basic theory. from there the sky is the limit....
if u dig deep enough u just might reach the sky...

If u make music u are already a musician.
U just need to develop ur skills.
Read Ravensguide or get some books for learning music theorie. It is not that hard and u will get fast the first nice results of ur learning.
