I understand your predicament. Well, then. try these few options;
1. Open new instruments and play with them , u might hear something you like, and can give 'shape' to the track. For eg. , till the time, there might not be a single synth/pad, so try to introduce them.
2. Â Add more layers of percussion, and play with the Hi - Hats.
3. Make Breaks, but not too soon.
4. If theres synths already, make more patterns, u might get an idea how to progress the tune.
5. worst case, just go back to scratch - really - u have to do that sometimes.
Goodluck!

Ron just use your imagination, don't work quickly, once you are in good mood for music creation and have many ideas - combine them to your track. We can actually tell you what to do, it's your mind - you the creator, it's fully based on your ideas. If you don't have a lot of them, get your self a partner... (together you will do about 4 min. :)) My problem for now is to do my tracks more shorter :) |

I think there's nothing more valuable than taking some time out from the song if it's boring you...
tomorrow may not be the same way, and most importantly you may hear some element in it that you'd ignored that takes your fancy...
gives you a new context to work from.
other than that, a trick i sometimes use is when you get back to and old song that isn't working, rather than playing the whole song back (always seems to be the first step in writing, one will always listen to what they've done already before writing new stuff) just play the last bar, pattern, or section of your song, so you can put the start of the song out of your mind, instead, concentrating on where you're really up to...

my advice it to start the track not from the start: start in the middle of the start, 4/8/16 bars of bd, bass, drum loops, effects, melody etc. make the layers, mute and unmute till u get bored. then copy the rythm section forward and make new melody, effects and different drum loops.
then open the parts (spread them with a logical progression so it make sence as a track) and connect the two parts etc. etc. etc...

guys i think this is the best way to work, always when i'm creating new track i'm doing it in this way... collecting all the samples (even more than i will use in the track), then writing all - groove, effects, bassline, melody etc. after i have all this ready, i'm copying it somewhere and getting started... as i see i'm not the only one :) |

My way of working:
I make the track chronologically. I start at the beginning, make something. Go to the next pattern, change a bit, and stuff like that. And getting stuck after 2 minutes is the most annoying thing there is! |
