I see some producers laying their monitors on their sides so tweeters and bass are on almost the same height (instead tweeters being on top of the bass). What do you think/know about that?

Thanx!

But as far as I know, every studio and its sound characteristics - so try both - but also follow manufacturer's directions.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

it depends on the monitor. the ns10's by yamaha were made to be on their sides. most monitors aren't. check you monitors' manual to find out about your monitors.

in my opinion...

wouldnt the high and low sounds have a better chance of hitting your ears at the same time when the sources are on the same horizontal level?

Low frequencies travel faster so laying monitors on their side could put out time alignment very slightly... one would figure manafactures would account for time allignment issues when suggesting placement options but I would always let my ears be the judge.

Get two friends to hold a monitor each and move them around until you get the best result. ie transient response, stereo image...

Besides the Yamaha's most monitors are suppose to be upright...the correct alignment is so that when you sit between them you make an equalateral triangl ewith you monitors and that the tweeters are in line with your ears...also dont have your monitors up aginst a wall, this can mess the acoustics up with the bass in particular
