What do you think about this baby? Nice alternative for the AKAI APC40 and cheaper (149 pounds).

This plus a SL and you have a nice live pack for ableton!

Wow, Novation is on a roll!

Seems like that combo would be good. (it costs one extra precious USB slot, though)

From what I can tell:

APC 40
Advantages:
*Knobs/Faders (!!!)
*Represents more closely what's on the screen

Disadvantages:
*Big/Bulky
*Requires ext. power source
*Cost (compared to Launchpad)

Launchpad
Advantages:
*Small/Lightweight
*Price
*USB Powered

Disadvantages:
*No knobs/faders
*Menu shuffling
*Precise tweaking impossible (?)

APC 40: Seems ideal for all-around studio usage as well as live performance, especially if one produces heavily within Live. Seems like a bitch to transport around for traveling/touring.

Launchpad: Seems geared for live performance and less for studio, with the exception of drum loop creation possibilities. (Although APC 40 can mimic the drum capabilities through Max for Live.) Button-only control makes fine tuning and tweaking problematic at best as parameters would jump by certain values compared to what a knob has to offer.

Anyone have anything else to add?

hm , i think for the price suggested the novation is pretty cool..

but akai especially on midi controllers always got the best haptik and quality of all imo..

sure the novation might weight alot less and you can do the cool live features but overall its not that impressive in studio as the apc 40 like you mentioned..

another thing, and im regarding the nocturn...its pretty sensible, so not a tool for a drunken night on stage or smth...hehe

but one cannot do alot mistakes with just pads, so i think its a very good thing for traveling and so on..would love to get my hand on it...maybe i will borrow one from my favourite shop, as soon as they got them in stock...           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

I think itīs great value for money, but it all depends on how your "live" set\show is setup.

If you donīt user keyboard and just tweak knobs and launch clips, this plus a korg nanokontrol for me itīs a great portable live set pack.

I canīt see myself carrying a apc40 with me, but I certainly see carrying this.

But itīs all about tastes\needs at the end.

Would be nice to have a review\opinion from Mr. Cosm!           0īs and 1īs
