dear Pelinpala,
just wanted to add a comment after some hours of speechless reflection on what happened to you.
your story is very touching and interesting to read, although your good wishes for a "happy reading" did not find much resonance in me, because it was quite a sad story. but it was a story with greatest moral about human society and intercultural relationships. the basic question rotating in my head was how far we can go with projections of our own fears and subjective existences onto others who are conditioned in totally different societies. and everyone of us probably does it all the time unconsciously, expecting from others certain behaviour and appreciation. and how often do we feel pain through a social interraction with others, just because we were not able to tune into another cultural view and perspective?
and i am sorry to read that this happened to you in this way. it must have been terrible to you. the story would be a nice reading also for all the people who are so sure that the professional life of an artist is a long red carpet fancy journey of easy life, easy world travel and holidays, and neverending intercultural party in hotels and in crowds of worshipping fans. no it is not always like that, it is extreme risk and stressing situations.
good to know you came back healthy. and thanks for sharing the moral of the story. although i am quite sure ( or i hope) that this is only one organizer out of many and this story should not be a general view on tel aviv and israel either. a name would be not bad to have. because then i am sure you would get other views from people from israel too, so you would see that not everyone shares same ideas and behaviour like this person you met.
sometimes it is good to use real names, because it makes it possible to distinguish between assholes and organisers with engagement and spirit, and i am sure there are few of the latest in israel. and their situation is definitely quite hard to cope with, because we visitors only fear about war situation for a few days on a trip to tel aviv, and they live there every day...you know.
another idea that i had while reading, was that there are quite a few people who feel like unwanted guests in strange societies out there in the world on every airport they go. emphasize on EVERY airport. they feel the same thing whereever they go, not only in risk countries. it is just this idea again about conditioning and expectations.
greets back to you, and dont let it hurt too much. btw i would try to connect those friends of mine in israel once again if i were you. just in case of missunderstanding.

wise words, very well put. you have my consensus, i have very similar thoughts.
this was one of those rare extreme cases, and it could have happened anywhere to anybody.
all in all i still have more good memories about israel and its people.

i've been once in Israel, and had really an unbeatable hospitality the 3 weeks i was there...
that's indeed a fucked up story, but can happen. I can share similar adventures in other countries... heheh.
anyway some parts are funny, the way u write them, but the important thing is that finally u are well.
and for Ben Gurion yes... crazy crazy!
Cheers,
D.

Care to elaborate on the 'crazy crazy' part?
That sounds like you're a condescending little shit bag, laughing at Haltya rather than being the slightest bit shocked at the way the organizers treated him, and potentially future 'guests' of theirs.
I take it you condone that kind of behaviour as if it is normal? |

I don't think so. Sounds to me like he's being sympathetic, and agreeing that Ben Gurion aiport has a reputation for an insanely paranoid, intimidating and unfriendly approach to immigration.

WOW, that's all I can say, I love your sence of humor, because without it, you wouldn't be able to tolarate such a primitive and bully situation.
If it was me, probably it would had ended in the public TV news
I would had gone to the media and had my laugh out the story, maybe get some bucks for the script
I admire your inner strengh, I lived in Israel half of my life, and I understand you very well.
Have a peacful day.

It appears your situation may have been more tolerable had you not arrived sick and tired.
Hard to blame that on Israel.

I think you may have misunderstood what said.
Elaborating:
It appears much of your suffering revolved around the fact that you arrived sick and tired which I take it was no fault of the said organizers.
Additionally it also appears the problems you experienced at airport security were of no fault of the organizers.
The PA guy was probably also acting on his own accord.
When I said "more tolerable" I mean "still not good but no quite as bad" if that makes sense to you. So no I don't think its o.k.
So I take it you are not blaming anyone? Just a bad luck DJ travel story.
Also a question?
Did they pay you nothing at all for either gig? Hotel? Airfare? It is not clear.
