My insurance company doesn't even pay any insurance money to my family in case of death in Israel, because the insurance company marks it as a class 1 war zone.
Fact : Global Peace Index ranks Israel as the worlds 4th most dangerous country. |

Friends?
After telling the situation to many of my so called friends in israel, and asking them for help to provide me Liors or Hasambas address so that i could send him a bill for my beach gig square and legit. That's all i asked from my friends. There must be a telephone service where you can ask for the billing address of a phone number, it exists everywhere else.. |

i felt like an unwanted guest in a strange world of customs and weird social behaviour i still didn't understand. Not even after having visited Isreal for 12 times, during the last 8 years. |

What a story!
Given how often this comes up on Isratrance I sometimes wonder whether an index of organizers with the opportunity to leave testimonials might help the situation... seems like the whole scene is full of snakes but it's just because we don't often hear of the promoters that treat artists and patrons right.

Did someone say snakes?
I visited Israel in march last year, the only time I didn't feel welcome was at the airport. I felt like a lab-rat with too many stamps in the passport. Fucking awful experience.

as one of the places that support your music quite long time i think you could mention little bit more about the great other times so people wont get the wrong idea. offcourse airport nightmares are regular shitty thing but this sort of story wont happen with most productions , and as lior had dozens or artists from all over the world include simon p. ozric tentacles and many more no one ever complained.
i do believe this all was bad resonance weekend where all just went wrong and full lack of communication. your set was brilliant anyway..
i think only way to avoid is to include all payments of flight transport and hotel in the deposit so you are free man to do it alone im sure you will be there on time
after i made fail trip to the airport only to discover some idiot never paid the reserved ticket.. i cant afford that shit anymore prefer to make it alone with my own travel agent and yes this lost me many gigs but i think serious people should have no problem with this way of making business and actually do it if you 'name' is big enough without questions

Oh and by the way after reading your entire story I must say that you are a strong person to go through all of this with bad health, I would've given up by half of what you experienced and broken down in tears cursing the gods

Terrible experience, and I had wanted to visit Israel many time but had been nervous to go with my wife especially as we have often visited Malaysia which is a Muslim country and have stamps on our passport from Malaysia.
I still think one day we will go to visit, with a close friend who is from there going with us to visit his family.
I also want to say that from my many travel experiences you have to expect that no matter who you consider friends often culture is stronger and they will stick together over anything that happens to you, the foreigner.
It happens in every country & while it is extremely unfair in your circumstances it does not surprise me that such things happen, as they do globally (I have a friend currently doing 15 years prison in S.E Asia having been wrongly arrested on drug charges, and the friend & his family he was staying with denied even knowing closely when asked by police).
All I can say is that from my many years of travel to lots of developed and developing countries is that always be careful, vigilant and let your family & friends back at home know what is going on every step of the way.
You never ever know when the sh!t will hit the fan, and much worse things can & will happen even in "safe developed countries".
Good luck in recovering form the shock & awe of this experience & to the people who screwed you over what goes around comes around.
I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy! |

yes its true.
So here is some balance: i have had some of the best hospitality i have ever had in the scene from israel promotors. i have even played a really nice gig for the same promotors that fucked me over last time. so dont get me wrong - not every trip to israel ends up like my last trip did. all in all i think there are some of the best parties there in israel. this particular trip however was very challenging. psytrance in israel can be an extreme sport it seems.
There are numerous stories more from many countries ofcourse, my writings however only describe the very worst situations from the djs point of view (hence the name: disaster dj stories..).

good point, and its true it happens all over the place. for example i have lived 7 years in germany myself and still got called a "ausländer" even by my friends at weak moments. i know exactly what you are talking about. in brazil its even worse sometimes, depends where you are.
sorry to hear about your friend.

dear Pelinpala,
just wanted to add a comment after some hours of speechless reflection on what happened to you.
your story is very touching and interesting to read, although your good wishes for a "happy reading" did not find much resonance in me, because it was quite a sad story. but it was a story with greatest moral about human society and intercultural relationships. the basic question rotating in my head was how far we can go with projections of our own fears and subjective existences onto others who are conditioned in totally different societies. and everyone of us probably does it all the time unconsciously, expecting from others certain behaviour and appreciation. and how often do we feel pain through a social interraction with others, just because we were not able to tune into another cultural view and perspective?
and i am sorry to read that this happened to you in this way. it must have been terrible to you. the story would be a nice reading also for all the people who are so sure that the professional life of an artist is a long red carpet fancy journey of easy life, easy world travel and holidays, and neverending intercultural party in hotels and in crowds of worshipping fans. no it is not always like that, it is extreme risk and stressing situations.
good to know you came back healthy. and thanks for sharing the moral of the story. although i am quite sure ( or i hope) that this is only one organizer out of many and this story should not be a general view on tel aviv and israel either. a name would be not bad to have. because then i am sure you would get other views from people from israel too, so you would see that not everyone shares same ideas and behaviour like this person you met.
sometimes it is good to use real names, because it makes it possible to distinguish between assholes and organisers with engagement and spirit, and i am sure there are few of the latest in israel. and their situation is definitely quite hard to cope with, because we visitors only fear about war situation for a few days on a trip to tel aviv, and they live there every day...you know.
another idea that i had while reading, was that there are quite a few people who feel like unwanted guests in strange societies out there in the world on every airport they go. emphasize on EVERY airport. they feel the same thing whereever they go, not only in risk countries. it is just this idea again about conditioning and expectations.
greets back to you, and dont let it hurt too much. btw i would try to connect those friends of mine in israel once again if i were you. just in case of missunderstanding.
