Ok I have already searched other forums for answers and have given up...basically I need to find a soundcard that is going to work stable with low latency on a sony vaio laptop..at the moment I have a Tascam US428 and the latency is terrible plus cubase sx is starting to lock up...does anyone recommend a particular pcmcia card or maybe a firewire solution???

Once again I have to promote the RME products..
http://www.rme-audio.com
I have and enjoy very much the RME Multiface Hammerfall, but there are different cards and newer than this one.
Excellent quality product, very good for both desktop and laptop( pcmcia )

That's right Yuli
I have a Multiface too.
I have a Pentium III 450Mhz (Desktop) and a Pentium IV 2Ghz (laptop) that I bought for live.
And if I was happy about the card with the desktop, You can immagine how I am now.
With the laptop I've droped the latency the minimum with no problem at all
(64 samples / 1.5 ms).
(It helps to use software native plugins)
But there's always that 'price' problem that each of us have to measure!!!!
