Just installed everything for the live on the laptop. A Presonus firepod, cubase and nuendo.
But when I play the live it 'sputters' or gives 'plops' not from cpu, but from the audio. I already turned of the wireless network, and tryed to save some energy by putting the screen brightness low.
But it's still not enough, does someone knows some more things i can do?

Please help, it's urgent ;-)

regards,
Bonas

How many tracks/clips are you playing simultaneously, and what resolution audio are they? What plugins are being used? What is the spec of your laptop? What latency are you using? What other programs do you have running in the background? When you press Ctrl-Alt-Del, how many tasks are running?

As a first step, check your system is optimised for Background Processes rather than Progams (System -> Advanced -> Performance -> Advanced). Also check you're using the ASIO drivers that came with the Firepod. You won't save any CPU power by keeping the screen brightness low!

Finally - Why do you have both Cubase and Nuendo installed at the same time?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Might be that you did not choose your right drivers in Cubase, see what drivers are the ones used and see if they are the Presonus ones.

Hope its that simple.

Ok,I have read a lot of stuff on different forums and the problem seems to be the Toshiba laptop.
They seem to have very bad firewire.
I have put all my projects on a siemens laptop, also the soundcard, evrything works fine on that one.

my rule of thumb is: never have your CPU meter above 30% during a live set. Turn off whatever you have to in order to get it down to that level. Or bounce to audio. Also, click once on the power meter in the system tray and make sure it's set to "ALWAYS ON"

Also: USE ABLETON LIVE FOR LIVE SETS. Cubase is not made for such things.

mmm... dodgy generalisation there imo From 1994 up until 2006 we used Cubase for our live sets (at first driving a large MIDI rig, and more recently laying out the arrangement of the live set and running VSTis live), and although Ableton definitely has some advantages for some styles of live set it's most certainly more than possible to run a live set from Cubase.

If your live set consists of playing back full mixes then you don't want to be tempo-warping tracks anyway, as this (imo) adds unacceptable distortions in both SX and Live; not warping tracks removes Live's main (although not only) advantage over SX. I don't think there's anything wrong with playing tracks at their natural tempo during a live-set, and SX is a capable VST host for your synths, so for this style of live set SX is perfectly capable.

That said, I'd still recommend Live over SX for use on stage.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
