i´m going to buy an laptop and a external soundcard for playing "live" (whatever that means) with Ableton Live and M-Audio Axiom 49
Keyboard/Controller.
Now, i´m searching for a laptop and a soundcard
that runs stable and with enough power!
What do you use?
My buged is around 1200.-Euros for both. |

Macbook and the echo audiofire 2...
put some aditional ram into the macbook..like two gig of the same brand for dual ram mode..
http://www.dsp-memory.de/v1/catalog/default.php?cPath=1_9035&
here you can get very cheap and very good ones..
the echo got damn good converters.128x oversampling..balanced i/o and sound really amazing..clear and crisp..provided especialy for sounddesigners..if you can deal with the amount of i/o then you`ll be fine...if not go for the audiofire 4..got that setup...like macbook 2.16 ghz,2gig ram, axiom 49 ,echo audiofire 4,live 6...and very very satisfied with all that stuff for sure..like i can load heaps of clips and vst instrument...without any problems in live...no driver issues on the mac..even i just have to plugin the soundcard and everything works at its best..will keep this setup for a long time i guess..

Then wait a bit...its definatly worth it...
i`m so happy about osx and the mac world...will never change back to a win system...someday you will have to use the great vista and stuff like that if you want to be up to date...you know...and all this registry and bios shit on windows based laptops...give you 100% headache..on wich you won`t have to care about in any way if you`re on a mac..even with viruses or trojans and stuff..you don`t have to worry about..
you can get the macbook for 999€ then the audiofire2 for 200€ and next month you buy some more ram...for example..but its up to you..

get a > 1.8gh dual core (2.2 should be pretty good) and 2gb ram laptop, the rest of the specs doesnt really matter
and buy one of those pcmcia Echo Indigo DJ (2 outs, one for pa, one for cue)
that should do the job....plus you get some extra money to buy whatever...
you could get a mac...but then again, i would only get a mac for the looks =) (never had any registry or bios problem....plus the viruses and trojans...nowadays you only get one of those if you really try hard to do so)
  un-fucking-believable |

Macs do get viruses and trojans, that's for sure!!! Don't believe the hype ! Ofcourse, that doesn't mean that it's not a quality choice. (Yeah, it looks good too, ok)

i am running on an asus s9j (15" widescreen) with an m-audio audiophile firewire. the notebook has a 2.16GHz intel core 2 duo cpu and it costed me around 1500 euros but that was already a year ago. The m-audio daw was about 200 euros.
I use it in combination with an external mixer and an evolution uc-33e midi controller. I run traktor 2 and ableton live 5.2 and it works great!
