Pretty vague question... first things first, download the manual to your router if you don't have it already. The quick-starts are relatively simple.
If you have Cable internet, chances are you can just plug everything in and go.
If you have DSL, you probably have to go into the router setup webpage, accessed with a direct IP address (Sometimes 192.168.1.0, sometimes not, you MUST read the router manual), and enter your user and password for your internet account.
To setup the individual computers to share files etc, just run the "Network setup wizard" and make sure everyone is part of the same "workgroup", which is usually MSHOME by default but can be changed to whatever you want.

thanks for your attention Aeon
i've been told that with 2 ethernet cards and a compatible cable, with be the enough to get my little network. thing is, after everythings installed and no problems or conflicts, everythings looking pretty well, when i connnect the cable beetween computers both LAN icons on both computers maitain exactly the same 'look', with a red X on where it can be read cable is disconnected
i have 3 cables, 1 was confirmed in the store that would work, other is exactly equal, and a 3rd one different from the previous ones mentioned, on every try with different cables the icons says allways the same

| run the "Network setup wizard" |

i did it, tried a lot of combinations, even different protocols in each computer(!), but from the beginning i know that it'll probably not work since both windows are recognising the cable plugged
can i have 1 of the ethernet cards not working properly?

That's your problem, if you're doing a direct cable connection without a Router/Switch that's different.
What you're doing requires a "Crossover" cable, it's basically the same CAT-5 cable, but wired differently inside the cable. You can re-wire your current network cable if you have the diagram and tool, or, more likely, just go buy a specific Crossover cable.
