No need for a cracked version, freeware! :-)
Download the exe/dll here: http://www.jthz.com/~lame/ And I assume you don't like command-line programs so get the nice GUI (out of many, but I like it) here: http://www.dors.de/RazorLame/ |

Michael, first of all THANK YOU!, i've been looking for it all day...
which version should i download? there are a few... and what's dll?
i want to be able to record online music (eg. philosomatica) straight to mp3 form. i have the total recorder program but it records in WAV and there's an option to record in mp3 with the LAME. does anyone have a better idea? |

dll is a dinamically linked library .... or simply: it's a black box that can do things if you know what language it speaks :) ANOTHER thing about lame encoder: if you have a C/C++ compiler, you can download the source code of this encoder [the program in C, not the binary file compiled on some1 else's computer], and "compile" it on your computer. this way it will be fit for your exact PC, your exact CPU...and this way it will be the fastest. but for that u need to know a little programming or a friend who can help. |

uhh... Download either the stable or beta. Not too much difference. After that stick lame.exe to the RazorLame directory, and in the RazorLame options set the path to the lame.exe. And recording realtime to mp3 isn't recommended. Don't know, maybe it's just me but I don't like it. I record everything to .wav first and then edit the .wav (cut unwanted stuff and shit like that) then encode to mp3. |

Record in wave. Edit. Encode to mp3 using lame. Use the method I told you, you don't want to lehistabech with compiling stuff... And you can get it to work perfect with your CPU only if you know how to. Most of the time it will just compile for 386 (you don't want it, right? :-)). Sound Forge is not freeware, and yes, you can get it from a friend. :-) |
