I honestly Don't know if what I am gonna say next is going to sound like a bad joke, but I'll Let you be the judge of that...
Today I got my copy-for-review of Yahel's latest album. needless to say, i had no idea of it's coming and i was quite thrilled to get it, as I heard just the other day about the good things about it.
when i got home, i jammed it in my computer CD Drive, and waited. nothing happened. I took the CD tray out nd re-inserted it. still nothing. I went to my computer, and that's when my suspecions arose. the CD icon was labled "HALLUCINATE", like a common burned with a given title. I double clicked it, but instead of getting the media player up, the CD opened, to reveal.... that the CD was infact composed of 9 mp3's.
further inspection revealed that each file was: 44,100Hz, 16 bit, 128 bit stereo. another look turned up some folders in which were all sorts of unopanble files, labled CDPLUS and PICTURES.
I don't know about you, but this is not what i expected of phonokol. not this. an mp3 CD? and a promo one, at that. Have I been had? I would very much like to find out this was a clerical error, but as it turnes out insofar, this has been a gross mistake...           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. imho, its an honest clerk mistake.
a dude was told to extract the original to mp3.
the dude is stupid.
the dude used software with all defaults.
meaning 128 and joint stereo.
dude then made cd copies of those mp3's he made.
thats it.
if the guy who made it was into music then he would know that 128 is crap.
not listening quality.
this whole mp3 idea i think was just to save on the expenses or to avoid ripping the cd to the net at better quality.
i don't know.
better ask someone at phonokol.
and if yahel was still with hommega this would never happened....

Why don't you ask Phonokol, instead of asking here where no one can give you a knowledgable answer?           ---------------------------------------------

Well, I've just had a long conversation with Yahel's Brother, Ziv, who explained to me why the CD includes MP3's.
the CD, he told me, was divided into 2 sessions - the quality Audio Session, to be played on CD players and walkman CDs and such, and the mp3 session, provided for those who want to take the tracks on to their computer. the reason for the relatively Low format compression (128), according to him, was that it was the most common format for most ppl to use. I apologized to him since I have misunderstood their intentions, but i think in all fairness, it should have been printed on the sleeve or at least in the communique provided by phonokol. good intentions and all, it was a bit confusing.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are.
