Am I the only one frustrated by this?

There are really no good distro's/larger records stores that are based in the united state and sell psytrance. To find anything rare or recent you have to buy from some place like Saikosounds-all the way over in Japan, and hope it makes it accross the pacific okay (if they aren't sold out of it..at least 90% of the stuff I want albumwise is stuff they don't have), use psyshop all the way over in Germany and wait for it to come accross the atlantic, or cross your finger that someone you know has what you want and will sell it to you. This is why people download alot in the U.S.-because it's hard to find the stuff otherwise.

I'll admit that I have more than a few mp3s on my computer. I feel bad about it, but until I can get the album, it's the only way I can enjoy the music apart from getting lucky and seeing the artist live. I know the people who make this music work their ass off and see very little monetary return for what they do, and if I could find all of the albums I'm looking for, I would be more than willing to buy a copy of each one and finally get rid of all my mp3s. Of course, that's gonna take years and hundreds of dollars unless psy gets better distribution in the U.S., and I don't see anyone doing that.

I dunno..it's a complex issue..what do you think?

Stores sell things that sell, psytrance isn't known in US, if you think in Israel where psytrance played at 4 out 10 cars and 3 out 6 clubs is easier to find then it's mistake. You can find 5 normal CDs and rest shite in big CD stores. There are special electronic music stores where you can find releases but Psyshop and Saikosounds are the main choise for me, since i pay via Paypal definitely Saikosounds then.

I listen to Uk house music as well, there are almost no releases of this genre in my country, they even struggle to keep Global Underground CDs which is most famous collection of genre i speak of.           "there once was a lesbian from Cancun

I have tried several times to register with Paypal..every time it hasn't worked. Similar problem with all my friends..plus I don't have a credit card, and can't afford to get one right now. I don't think that Saikosounds offers any other payment options.
Plus it's got to cost an ungodly sum of money as far as shipping from Japan to the U.S. too, probably more than a low budget college student can afford.

Right now I just scope Ebay hoping one day I'll get lucky and find an album I'm looking for. it's not like I don't want to buy the CD-I always want to have the original album, I just can never get it.

Man, hehe. Without credit card you can't sign in to Paypal or any other service. Bank account doesn't mean you can buy online, only few shops allow that. Although i have credit card but i can't buy on eBay as well i'm banned there because they ask me to provide too secure information about me since i'm from Israel which i can't provide to online service.

I would be glad to be able to buy on eBay and do not pay taxes like you do within US, so stop crying and search thru eBay. Shipping costs isn't that much if yo oder more than one CD.           "there once was a lesbian from Cancun

He Pac you are right about distribution in the US, there is no distributor. It would be great if you or anyone that is into psytrance would start a distribution in the US. At http://www.chaosexistence.net/ you can order cd's but it takes ages I think as they do not have any stock for import.
So may-be this thread will make anyone in the US starting some distribution.

I work at at music store in Boston (local chain of stores) that used to sell psytrance cds & vinyl. The store stopped carrying them because well, the market just isn't here...I think even if we do see a us based store that sells psytrance, its going to be an online store. And then really, its no different from buying online from any of the other stores... chaos unlimited, psyshop, or saiko sounds...you need a debit or credit card for any of these...           ~gOa ist nicht nur musik sondern auch eine lebenseinstellung~

Zytrans distribution...conditions that need to be met:

First and foremost-the store needs to be in a big city.

2. Steady fan base-people who will come on a regular basis and not just once in few months.

3. Goods-besides CD's there should be accessories, books, banners, art...use your mind...

this is vital because there are people who might not listen to psytrance but they'll get their attention captured by something else in the store.

4. There needs to be a good selection of music, meaning not only psytrance but also chill and ambient, dub, ethno and maybe some indie for indieheads.

The owners of this kind of business should not expect to MAKE, MAKE money out of this. There should be enough income to keep things going though and lots of willpower.

Supplying the store with psytrance CDs is actually difficult as i can imagine.
As we know, all labels are represented by distributing companies so it's hard to combine shipping of CD's and that's going to cost even more.

I could go more but i think it's enough. This is sure an experiment rather than a steady project. For those who want to do it it's going to be a gamble that could turn out either way. But don't allow this to put you down.

I could say that New York City is fertile for such store.

Why could'nt the psytrance community use the model of business used by the punk rock and/or indie scenes, you know, a few small labels that are well networked with the artists and dj's within the U.S. and also internationally, instead of the online store model. I mean, a network of people selling at shows, artists and dj's trading tracks and working on comp's together, and fans who will promote the labels/networks at parties (akin to "street teams" that many DIY labels have)and other electronic music events. We have all of the resources we need to get better distribution, we just need to start getting people more involved.

There are people who are already doing stuff like this, for instance Roberto here in Tx with Kagdila Records-he carries not just Kagdila releases but a variety of labels and sells at shows, and people DO buy from him..heck I've been meaning to track him down lately as i realized today he has some stuff I've been looking for.
