Hi
I decided to post this topic, beceause by my experience throughtout the years I had to deal with labels who are really taking too much time to release tracks. I won't say which one. Anyway some are taking more than 3 years to release. Even I made a track in 2007 and it still not release. So the things is that a trax is representativ of a period and time when it has been made right? Are there any artists in the same case??           Nia KOR

took me about a year to compile a single cd...it takes a lot of time for sure...if you want to do it all by the book...many label heads don't have the time because they either start producing or they are touring...depends who you're trying to work with really           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

i always add atleast a 6 month "buffer zone" to the agreed release date since timetables usually tend to streeeetch

Its the same in techno/house/breakbeat as well. It took 9 months to release on Dieb Audio and 6 months in Audio Therapy, 4-6 months on Streetwise, 9 months on Distinctive, 6 months on Fabric Live, something like 8 months on Etnicanet. The fastest ones have been Brighton Breaks and Ektoplazm.

yes me two.. always... it sucks and i think it's wrong.

my first track ever made for release is still pending.. i hope ? (http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/fel/fel1cd001.html ) since somewhere 2008... (made it in 2007)

used to feel deeply for this track.. now it's a forgotten oldie without ever having been released.. no problemo.. but shitty..

delay effects are still cool though..

Obviously labels with a busy release schedule, will take longer to release. But anything over 9 months is too much, imo.

Sure.. it's just so weird (or is it..)
that especially the labels with hardly any release-schedule are so undependable and slow..
with the royal exception of Sanaton Records. (slow BUT steady)

Then ofcourse there's all the debut-release-labels (or the ones with ambitious future PLANS for a debut-release.. ) which have great enthusiasm and spirit but are mostly soooo damn vague and demanding. oh well... what can you do.. : )

Well i can understand a delay between the track is made, then sent to the label. After label decides if he wants to release it or not and to finish to compile VA. So 1 year in a way it's normal. But almost 3 years. I don't understand where is the point.
By my experience the fastest was with Kabrathor rec and 2to6 rec beceause we got total control, and also something which is for me really important.... A DEADLINE!           Nia KOR

Let me add the label's point of view (as head of Cronomi Records).

First of all, 90% of label owners are not making this for a living so the label is not the first in their priorities. I am myself a student in university, so label comes second (and even third or fourth).
That being said, compiling a cd isn't easy. First you have to find those 8-10 tracks. Then each of the tracks has to be sent to you in a proper way, and usually some changes are made to change it from almost-releasable to reseasable. Then it has to go through mastering. And artwork has to be done. And changed. And changed again. And then it appears that some guy lost some files in one of his tracks so he needs to recreate some sounds in order to have it releasable. All of these are small delays which add up to a significant amount of time. Our next compilation which will be released (hopefully) in February has been in preparation since over a year.
We are in no way trying to hold music hostage, or try to annoy our fans and artists, but that's the way it is. Delays happen, and the delays can be very long (more than a year in some cases).
If some artist happens to be the first track to get selected for a compilation, it can take a long long time until he sees it on plastic.

my solution - loan copyrights for 1 year from CONTRACT day not from release day.
so even if they paid and take too long you aint 'loosing' the track.

for the few times i havent dont this.. oh boy. still one of the best tracks we did (darknoizz vs g.o.w vs guinea pigs = 6 people) isnt released tho we got paid 3 years ago          www.sattelbattle.com

this

also...some artists are potheads and take 50+ emails to send you one 2minute clip on which you have to decide weather you like the entire yet unmade track or not

Countless artists complained to me about this situation, unfortunately as an artist you have to let it go. This wait time is inherent to the compiling and releasing process, and some times, by the many already mentioned reasons, it may be far after the "deadline".

Best thing you can do is to talk openly to the label before and during the process.

Good luck!
